NEWBERRY, Fla. – A Crystal River man was killed and three people were critically injured in a head-on crash on CR 235 on Sunday evening.
At about 6:04 p.m. on April 27, a 35-year-old Old Town man was driving a sedan southbound on CR 235 and passed another vehicle on a double yellow line in a no-passing zone, south of NW 204th Street. The sedan collided with an SUV traveling northbound, driven by a 42-year-old Alachua woman.
The driver of the SUV was transported to the hospital with critical injuries, a 61-year-old Crystal River man who was the front seat passenger in the SUV was declared deceased at UF Health Shands, and a 14-year-old Alachua girl who was also a passenger in the SUV suffered critical injuries. All three occupants of the SUV were wearing seatbelts.
The driver of the sedan was transported to the hospital in critical condition; he was wearing a seatbelt.
The investigation is ongoing.
Sad. Prayers for the families of those involved. Drive safely.
I guess the person who passed in the no passing zone was in a hurry and disregarded the safety of others, the law and common sense. I hope the “at fault driver” is the one who died, not one of the innocent people he hit.
It looks like the driver who did the passing is in critical condition and the person who died was a passenger in the SUV that he hit.
Unfortunely a passenger died not a driver. Sad for the car occupants over a stupid actions because someone was in a hurry. Easily preventable. Hard pill to swallow.
