One killed in Orange Heights crash

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – At approximately 7:30 p.m. on October 20, crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue, Melrose Fire Department, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, and Florida Highway Patrol responded to a vehicle accident on U.S. Hwy 301 in the area of Orange Heights.Â
Upon arrival, crews found two vehicles with heavy damage and several injured passengers. Members worked quickly to transport three patients to a local hospital with significant injuries; one patient was pronounced dead at the emergency room. Traffic was backed up for several hours as both northbound lanes were blocked following the incident. The cause of the crash is under investigation by FHP.
