Speaking of roads, has anyone with 1/2 a brain drawn both a logical and common sense reason for the City Commission Idiots reason for turning the stretch of 8th Ave between Main and 6th St. in to a combined use roadway? It’s obvious the Commission doesn’t use their brains when making decisions.
Sounds like the “one less car” reflective vest bike maniacs goaded the city into spending tens of thousands to narrow roads. Again. Because the ideal utopian dreams of a few bike riders outweighs the common sense of thousands of cars passing per day. The city virtue signaling includes traffic cones and reducing lanes.
Gville is a signatory to ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. ICLEI is a successor to the UN’s Agenda 21 which promotes “smart cities”, “15 minute cities”, “freedom cities”, etc. The local government knows exactly what they’re doing…this isn’t some smooth brain oversight.

Totally agree, i commute to work using my bike and never seen more than 3 people on bikes, no need for that combined use roadway. The sidewalks are in good condition , wonder who took a big chunk on that non-sense contract.
This appears to be over near Hunters Run… another dangerous intersection/entrance that people don’t treat seriously enough.
There is a serious issue with Williston Road from NE 16th to I-75. The posted speed limit is 45 MPH, but 8 out of 10 drivers act like it’s an extension of the interstate. I drive that road regularly in the morning. Admittedly, I drive up to 50 MPH. However, no matter what lane I’m in, I have drivers aggressively tailgating me, honking at me, flashing their lights, and aggressively cutting me off because they think I’m driving too slow! Now, we’ve had two major accidents on that road in one week. Two babies DIED on that road last week. Please increase law enforcement presence on that road! If that’s not possible, can we at least have flashing signs or something for people to SLOW DOWN AND DRIVE THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT?!
Speaking of roads, traveling into Alachua County from Gilchrist a blind person would know where one county ends and the other begins.
SR47 to 232 is a prime example of the disrepair under the watch of Alachua County Commissioners and their so-called road funding.
Your absolutely right about that. Alachua county roads are the worse. Ever drive down hwy 235? Start at Newberry abd by the time you get to Alachua your car needs a front end alignment and new tires, if you don’t have to stop and change a flat from that disintegrated road. Most roads are that way. Alachua has one of the highest gas tax around, they say it so they can fix the roads well its been a few years and nothings is fixed. Where is the money going? Probably to the democRats pockets in our local government.
