One person injured in downtown shooting

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – One person was treated for non-life-threatening injuries after a downtown shooting early this morning.
According to a Gainesville Police Department spokesman, the shooting occurred at about 12:45 a.m. on May 18 in the 100 block of SW 1st Street. Several people were arrested in the area and guns were recovered, but the shooting suspect has not been arrested.

According to some here, this behavior is totally normal and only occurred due to there not being enough police around… It’s no longer fatigue, it’s exhaustion.

On 8th Ave near main, it looks like they turned 2 whole car lanes into bike lanes….i hardly see anyone on bikes there…

Easy math dummies: We lead the developed world in gun deaths and it is the number one cause of childhood deaths here. We also lead the developed world – who saw this coming geniuses – in guns among the population. We also lead the world in throwing our citizens in jail, so “tough enforcement” is practiced without ending this nonsense.

It’s clear you favor stricter gun control, and you bravely risk controversial public discourse on the topic. I admire that.
Please take the next step and put a sign on your lawn that says “In this house, we don’t possess firearms.” Or go even further and get a t-shirt that says “I object to firearms and will always remain disarmed”. Proudly wear it whenever you’re in public to widely disseminate your message.
I’m confident these measures will demonstrate to others the rationality of your argument and will have a corresponding impact on public safety.

I haven’t lived in a city since 1968 and worked a farm for 15 years as an adult. I also lived in NYC for 3 years and loved it, but too expensive for a wife and kids and my trade(s).
