Staff report from Alachua County Fire Rescue press release

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – One person suffered minor injuries early this morning after being extricated from a vehicle that rolled onto its side on Newberry Road near I-75.

At about 2 a.m. on June 21, units from Alachua County Fire Rescue and Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident in the 7100 block of West Newberry Road, under the I-75 overpass.

Crews arrived to find the vehicle resting on its side with one occupant trapped inside. Firefighters quickly deployed specialized rescue tools and performed a rapid extrication using a technique known as a “roof flap.” The victim was safely removed from the vehicle, less than 10 minutes after the crews went to work.

The patient sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local area hospital for evaluation.

Alachua County Fire Rescue urges everyone to wear a seatbelt and drive responsibly, no matter the hour. Safe habits save lives.

  • Naahh, it was probably doing donuts during a
‘street takeover’…. remember thugs, be responsible and wear your seatbelt while doing donuts.

  • Let’s build another fire station on a residential lot for 7 million on NW County Road 235 A in which the road isn’t safe because of the 18 wheelers. These 18 wheelers have made the roads unsafe and barely usable. Hold the distribution centers, big business responsible for repairing the roads in the area don’t put the burden on the taxpayers and with 2nd highest property taxes in the entire state this is why this county is split so many core services aren’t being addressed.

  • Once again I will say it: Firefighters are just the best. You guys are heroes, real ones. God bless every one of you.
