Staff report based on Alachua County Fire Rescue release

NEWBERRY, Fla. – One person was transported to a local hospital in stable condition this morning after crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue and Newberry Fire Rescue extricated the patient from a pickup truck that had rolled onto its side after colliding with a semi truck on W. Newberry Road.

At about 9:45 a.m. on October 14, units from both agencies responded to the accident in the 16200 block of W. Newberry Road. The collision left the pickup truck on its side, blocking both eastbound and westbound lanes, with a large amount of fuel leaking from the pickup.

Crews quickly addressed the hazards and used the “jaws of life” to remove the entrapped person from the pickup truck. The patient was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Alachua County Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to wear a seatbelt.

  • Rollover wrecks almost every day on Newberry road now. The stretch from Fort Clark to Canterbury seems particularly bad. Never seen so many wrecks before. Wake up people.
