Overnight closure of I-75 South ramp to Newberry Road planned this weekend
Press release from Florida Department of Transportation
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – As part of a high-friction pavement surface installation project, the ramp from southbound I-75 to Newberry Road (State Road 26) is scheduled to close nightly from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, and Saturday, Aug. 19, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
During the closure, motorists on I-75 South will detour via SW Archer Road east and I-75 north to access the Newberry Road exit.
The safety improvements will enhance pavement friction and assist vehicles on ramps entering and exiting the interstate. The improvements will include a thin layer of high-quality, polish-resistant aggregate bonded to the pavement surface with a polymer resin binder. In Florida, the application has reduced the rate of total crashes on ramps by 32 percent and decreased wet-weather crashes by 75 percent.
Having good tread and properly inflated tires are also a major factor in maintaining traction. Too many accidents on highways due to worn out underinflated tires which makes them run hot and then….pop goes the weasel.
