Pair arrested after allegedly threatening teens with pocket knives

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Edgar Roy Moss, Jr., 65, and Shai Hasse Moss, 55, were arrested yesterday afternoon after allegedly threatening two teenagers with one or more pocket knives.
At about 3:33 p.m., a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to the 2900 block of NE 10th Street, where two victims, ages 13 and 14, reportedly said that their neighbors Edgar and Shai Moss had walked into their yard after a verbal argument. The victims said Shai Moss was holding an unopened pocket knife in her hand while both adults tried to instigate a physical fight between themselves and the teens.
The victims reportedly said that were in fear that Edgar and Shai Moss would harm them “with the pocket knives they brandished” before walking across the victims’ front yard to their carport.
The responding officer reported that he was able to view video evidence of the incident.
Edgar Moss has been charged with child neglect without great bodily harm. He has no criminal history; a neighbor reported in 2022 that he had left the scene of a crash, but the charge was later dropped.
Shai Moss has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated child abuse. She has no criminal history; charges of battery and disorderly conduct were dropped in 2022 after a neighbor alleged that she and Moss had gotten into a fight.
Both defendants have been released from the jail.

65yo no criminal history held without bail on the word of a 13yo… saying he was holding an opened pocket knife on or near his own property. Will he even be able to mount a defense to the heavy felonies from such a position. This is excessive judicial force.
