Pair arrested for attempted armed burglary, future attempted homicide charges possible

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Joshua Omar Mena-Tornay, 20, and Amber S. Watkins, 18, were arrested yesterday morning after a Gainesville Police Department officer reportedly discovered them trying to break into a house. Watkins later told the officer she intended to kill a man who lives there.

The officer responded to a call at 1:17 a.m. about people trying to break into the house, which is off NW 13th Street on NW 21st Avenue. The victim reported that he could clearly see two people outside his window and clearly saw a pistol in the man’s hand because a motion sensor security light turned on.

The officer reportedly saw both Mena-Tornay and Watkins in the back yard of the residence, and they allegedly ran when they saw him, but they were located and arrested.

Watkins was reportedly carrying a backpack containing a handgun, 7 pills of Xanax without a prescription, and 1.2 grams of methamphetamine.

Post Miranda, Mena-Tornay said he did not want to speak to the officer. However, Watkins consented to a post-Miranda interview, and she reportedly said she intended to go to a specific home where she knew “an Arabic male” lived; she said she believed the man had been involved in committing a crime against her friend, intended to steal belongings from his home, and intended to harm him. Watkins reportedly said that if the officer had not arrived, she would have broken into the home and used her gun “to make it so [the victim] would not have seen another day.” She reportedly admitted to looking through windows, removing screens from them, attempting to open them, and making sure “only the male she wanted to do harm to was inside the home.”

The officer reported that an attempted homicide investigation is ongoing.

Mena-Tornay has been charged with attempted armed burglary, displaying a weapon during a felony, carrying a firearm openly, and resisting arrest without violence. He has no criminal record and is being held on $170,000 bail with a requirement for a GPS monitor when he is released.

Watkins has been charged with attempted armed burglary, possession of a concealed firearm without a permit, possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a controlled substance, and resisting arrest without violence. She has no criminal history and is being held on $180,000 bail with a requirement for a GPS monitor when she is released.

  • Hey Karen do we blame this on all lives matter or what..but I’m sure you won’t comment on this one because well……. you know why🤔🤔😬.. racist di*k lickers

    • I guess everybody can take one look at them and see they are leftists. They’re probably big BLM supporters.

    • You didn’t know them. Keep your mouth shut, you don’t know the situation

      • X: you know the situation? We’re all ears…I want
to hear your defense for these two….the bitch with
The piercings and tattoo culturally appropriated those
Corn rows…are you X because your have
Gender dysphoria and don’t know your pronouns?
You a Zhe/they/it like the arrested bitch? God she ugly…

    • X, I know one thing both of them are stupid. They both need a hate crime attached to their charges. Beware meth heads at large.

    • Lmao that statement she made to police sealed her fate. Them women in Lowell are sure going to like her, she looks like she swings that way so prison will be right up her alley.

    • Lmmfao Don’t you have anything better to do than blame the white man because you’re Idiot Friends keep getting locked up?

    • Hey Geezus: Amber seems to be trying to identify
as black with those culturally appropriated corn rows…
      Is that cool with you?

  • Love that face tattoo. “loyalty Overlove”. That one is gonna sting to look at in the mirror when she gets older.

  • Did you know if you put Amber’s face tattoo into Google Translate it comes back in English as “Gosh I hope I can die in prison serving life”?

  • Given the meth stares in their photos both have been sucking the glass pecker. Long road ahead of them. They will either OD or pick the wrong house to break into. Anyway this is what happens in todays society. Soon people like these two will be coming to your house and lives if things do not change.

    • Personally know them Josh has never done meth that’s a stare of fear/regret/despair whatever you want to call it and as long you don’t rape anyone’s girlfriend he won’t break into your house I promise. I can’t speak for Amber beyond thinking she is a complete and utter moron

      • Anonymous: Josh ain’t too smart cause look where he ended up at with Amber. And, law enforcement will arrest rapists if that’s what your implying.

      • Well if there is a rape involved maybe the police should be notified so they can take action. All I know if Josh or Amber trespass or try and enter my residence the story will be much different after the dogs take care of them and I can stop laughing enough, they will have to deal with my wrath.

  • y’all are insane thinking you know anything beyond what information was released. “Victim” is a rapist. They had a good reason but were stupid to do what they did and they’ll get their punishment and their time. Knowing both of them it had nothing to do with drugs and all about the fact that the “victim” is a rapist.

    • Ohh I didn’t know they were handing out evidence anon.. You should give the copy they gave you to the police.
Breh you would have to be as dumb as the “she/it” in this photo to not see it that’s what she was implying. Thankfully just cause she cried rape doesn’t make it true.
And facing 10+ years in prison makes it especially untrue.
