Pair arrested for attempted robbery

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Leeandra Morris, 22, and Corey A. Robinson, 32, were arrested early this morning for allegedly trying to force their way into a pickup truck to rob the driver.

The victim told the responding Gainesville Police Department officer that he was sitting in his pickup truck in Pinewood Estates (5200 NE 39th Avenue) when he saw two people walking toward his truck. He said the woman approached the front of his truck, clutching her waistband as if she were about to pull out a firearm, and then she pulled on the driver’s side door handle and tried to open the door, but it was locked; the victim quickly placed the truck into Drive and pulled away. He said that as he moved forward, Robinson stood in front of his truck to try to make him stop so that Morris could open the door.

The victim said the man and woman were still in the area, and officers reportedly found Morris coming out of the woods, wearing clothing that matched the description provided by the victim. As Morris was being placed in handcuffs, she allegedly resisted the officers and had to be forcefully placed in a patrol vehicle.

Post Miranda, Morris reportedly did not want to answer questions without an attorney.

When officers approached Robinson, he allegedly ignored commands to get on the ground and was escorted to the ground, where he allegedly tucked his hands under his body. A search incident to arrest reportedly produced about 3.2 grams of marijuana.

Post Miranda, Robinson reportedly said he didn’t do anything; he said he hadn’t been with Morris and did not know what officers were talking about.

Morris has been charged with attempted unarmed robbery and resisting an officer without violence. She has three misdemeanor convictions (non-violent) and is on probation for shoplifting and trespassing. Senior Judge Bo Bayer set bail at $6,000.

Robinson has been charged with attempted unarmed robbery, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, and resisting an officer without violence. He has eight felony convictions (one violent) and nine misdemeanor convictions (one violent); he has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2019. He recently served 32 days in the Alachua County Jail for shoplifting, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting an officer without violence, and was released on September 20. Senior Judge Bo Bayer set bail at $30,000.
