Pair arrested for breaking into woman’s ex-boyfriend’s house, stealing dog and firearm

Staff report

Update on November 28, 2024: All charges have been dropped against Cade. Formal charges of burglary, theft, and property damage have been filed against Bellow. Bellow was also charged with violating the terms of pre-trial release in this case after a subsequent arrest.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alexei Francis Bellow, 35, and Robert Allen Cade, 36, of Ft. White, were arrested yesterday and charged with armed burglary, grand theft, grand theft of a firearm, and property damage after allegedly breaking into Bellow’s ex-boyfriend’s house and stealing multiple items, including a dog and a firearm.

A Gainesville Police Department Officer reported that the pair arrived at the victim’s home in the Apple Tree subdivision in separate cars at about 4:30 p.m. on May 2. Security camera footage reportedly shows them getting out of their vehicles and looking around the victim’s house and the neighboring house. The video reportedly shows that Bellow was wearing pink shorts and a black tank top.

A short time later, the video reportedly shows the pair moving items from the house into both vehicles; they left about an hour after they arrived.

The victim got home at about 6:20 p.m. and noticed that his driveway lights had been knocked down and the doormat was out of place. A window that faced the backyard was also reportedly broken, and his dog was missing. A 9mm pistol was stolen from his bedroom, along with $1,500 in cash. Ring cameras were missing from the interior of the house, a crock pot was missing from the kitchen, and a black leather office chair was also stolen. The victim reported that a bin from the garage had been emptied and used to carry items to the vehicles.

The responding officer reported that the suspects had used a shovel in the backyard to pry open a back door and smash a window, causing about $4,000 in damage to the victim’s house. A neighbor’s security cameras reportedly captured the entire burglary.

Bellow reportedly lived in the house in the past while she was dating the victim but has not lived there for about a year.

The officer’s investigation found that Bellow had gone to the tag office on NW 13th Street earlier in the day to attempt a transaction on the victim’s account, but the transaction was denied. An employee at the tag office who knew Bellow by name told the officer that Bellow was upset when the transaction was denied. Security video from the tag office reportedly shows Bellow wearing the same black tank top and pink shorts that the suspect in the burglary was wearing.

A neighbor of the victim reported that she came home at 5:30 p.m. and saw Bellow and Cade; she knows both of them personally, and she said Cade told her he was helping Bellow move her belongings out of the house. She said Cade called her during the time frame when he was at the victim’s house and said her fence needed some work and he was available to do it for her.

Bellow has four misdemeanor convictions (none violent). Judge Jonathan Ramsey ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold her without bail until trial.

Cade has no criminal history. Judge Ramsey ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial.

We asked GPD whether the dog was recovered and will update this article if we get any information about that.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • The discrepancy between who is given a pittance amount for bail versus those that are now being held without bail at all is pretty substantial….and, to be honest, it appears race-based….I’m sure they will argue it is socio-economic, as it has to do with the ability to pay. Unbelievable!

    • I usually stay out of the racial issues but I completely agree with your statement. It’s becoming all too odd. But let’s not forget that deep down nearly all judges are politicians too

      • Hey Slice, I do too, but I just felt it had to be said this time. I wasn’t sure if it would pass moderation, but I am glad it did, because I do believe there is validity to what we are all observing. It’s pretty strange for sure….

  • That smirk on her face is going to live on the internet for the rest of her life.

Good luck passing a background check for a good job…. Innocent or guilty.

    People are so stupid.

    • Her and the smirking catholic school assistant principal. Some people have no shame…

  • She should get along with Ashley Ratliff in jail, they have something in common. (previous article)

  • Violent crimes, gun crimes, multiple violent offenders are let off with small bail and this one gets held without bail!???
Are the patients running the asylum?

    • And the cade family name…… wonder if they will put his photo in the museum

    • He’s my neighbor and I know him personally, I know he isn’t the kind of man to break into someone’s house, if I had to guess the girl most likely lied to him to get him to help her

  • Both if these idiots deserve what us coming. But being held without bond for property crimes. This is a little odd. You have a woman hit a elderly female at Grace and she got $75,000. Plus she is on Probation. Very odd.

    • It’s why juries should be in charge. Make lawyers and judges subservient.

  • You almost have to record everthing you do now days. Someone can make up something and it will stick. Specially if it has anything to do with women

  • And these two clowns are wearing a smile like they’re proud of what they’ve done I hope they get about 5 years a piece that way they know not to mess with people because once people are done they’re done. What a pair of crash dummies for love they deserve each other and they deserve to go up the road

  • Not saying behind every man’s poor choice is a woman, but let’s not forget about Samson and Delilah.

Best be careful of those you take to bed… they’re liable to have you stealing someone else’s.

  • Amazing, someone beats the crap out of their girlfriend, rearranges her face, and they’re given bail AND allowed a reduction and turned loose. But burglaries make you far more dangerous. Screwed up court system

  • Where’s their white privilege? 🧐
I’m fine with locking them up they broke the law but damn, these local judges sure are biased and do not even try to hide it.

  • First off, the lived there at some point and probably still did. The ex probably lied about the time frame which she can press charges for illegal eviction. He changed the locks. From what I researched she worked for this EX and his business and that’s probably what prompted the DMV transaction. A crock pot?¿?? I’m sure it was hers. Ex is probably abusive and she left him. It’s sure more to this story….

  • Gainesville corrupt Justice system at work, obviously not trying to be covert, probably could have been resolved in a better way. No violence was involved, even candid comments with the neighbor. Could have been staged….
