Pair arrested for shoplifting over $900 in merchandise from Target; one said she’d been stealing merchandise ‘since about August’

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ashley Gibson Crews, 43, and Anastasia Renea Collier, 26, were arrested yesterday after allegedly stealing over $900 in merchandise from Target; Crews is expected to be charged with at least seven other thefts.

A Gainesville Police Department detective reported that Loss Prevention Officers (LPO) at Target (3970 SW Archer Road) said Crews had committed “push-out” thefts at the store at least seven times in the past month. The LPOs said they had been trying to get officers to respond to the store when Crews was there so they could stop the “constant thefts,” and at 4:30 p.m. on January 15, officers responded to the store while Crews and another woman were there.

The detective reported that the LPOs provided evidence of seven previous push-out thefts, totaling $2,195.82 in merchandise, in which Crews brought bags from other stores and used them to conceal merchandise from Target; in each case, Crews went through self-checkout and paid for a few low-dollar items (which gave her a new receipt to show any store associates who asked), and then she allegedly walked out with high-dollar items concealed in the shopping bags.

On January 15, Crews and Collier entered the store together, selected merchandise valued at $1,018.49, and placed items in bags from other stores that Crews had brought with her. The detective reported that the pair “meticulously worked to fit everything carefully into the bags. They also used rugs to help cover other items.”

At the self-checkout register, Crews reportedly rang up and paid for $26.89 in merchandise, and then Crews and Collier allegedly pushed a cart with $993.23 in stolen merchandise out of the store. The pair were stopped outside the store by an LPO and multiple police officers, and both were taken into custody.

Post Miranda, Crews reportedly admitted to stealing the items from Target, both on January 15 and on seven previous dates. She reportedly said this has been going on “since about August” and said she is stealing merchandise because she is not working and does not have any money.

Crews has been charged with grand theft, organized retail theft with at least five incidents within 30 days, and engaging in a scheme to defraud. She has no criminal history, and Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $175,000.

Collier has been charged with grand theft. She has no criminal history, and Judge Miller-Jones set bail at $50,000.

        • Crying Bear open mouth and insert foot. A quick search would not cause you the embarrassment. PRIDE flags, and other information would indicate that they are not Trump supporter abd if they were at a rally they would likely be protesting. Thanks for playing you won the idiot of day award.

          • You have no idea what personal sexual preferences these 2 are – there are plenty of straight women who are both overweight – like most Americans, most of them – and have short haircuts, nor do you seem to know that being gay does not keep you from being MAGA or in Trump’s inner circle. See Richard Grinnel, ambassador to Germany in Trump 1 and “special envoy” now for various task as well as President of the Kennedy Center.

In any case, just as with immigrants – legal and not – and native born Americans, the crime rates for gays is much lower than for straights. Are we now going to speculate on this characteristic for all arrested, or just the ones you are trying to stir up hatred for?

        • I would wager at least one doesn’t self-identify.

Now they can be identified as thieves.

  • Thought we were filtering responses – to politicize these criminal acts is wrong & should not be given a platform

  • Two more it’d be nice to dig into their histories over. Were they bitter single females with Antifa memberships and college loan debts, no prince would marry happily ever after, boohoo.

  • The sad thing is that both Target and Walmart do nothing to protect their merchandise, except take pictures for the police. We the taxpayers are used to protect their easily stolen products. They don’t have Loss Prevention people, because they don’t do any ‘prevention’.

  • Just a couple of ‘proud’ thieves…..if you get my drift…Maybe they can room together at the grey bar hotel?

  • The interesting thing here is how convoluted their process was. They must have talked, discussed and planned the thefts. Kind of like a dangerous adventure. Not the usual shoplifting event.
