Pair arrested for stuffing backpacks with stolen items, walking out of Walgreens carrying 12-pack of Sprite and Gators clothing
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dennis Claude Coleman, Jr., 20, and Cassandra Yvonne Culver, 26, were arrested yesterday after allegedly stuffing backpacks with stolen items from Walgreens and walking out carrying a 12-pack of Sprite and Gators clothing.
At about 3 p.m. on September 14, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the Walgreens at 2415 SW 75th Street after an employee called 911.
The employee reported that both defendants had entered the store with a black backpack, and she saw them placing items in the backpacks with the intent of concealing them; the employee asked another employee to call 911. While the employee was on the phone with the Combined Communications Center, the pair reportedly left the store without paying for the items in their backpacks or the items they were carrying in their hands.
The defendants reportedly ran eastbound on SW 24th Avenue and were found by deputies as they walked along the sidewalk in the 7100 block of SW 24th Avenue. Coleman was reportedly carrying a backpack, along with several t-shirts and a baseball cap. Culver was reportedly carrying a backpack and a 12-pack of Sprite. Both defendants reportedly said they “just found the backpacks” as they were walking.
Post Miranda, Coleman reportedly said he did not have a receipt for the t-shirts and baseball cap and admitted to taking them without paying. He reportedly said that everything in the backpack had been taken from the store; he reportedly had 15 items worth $219.45 in his possession, including two Florida Gators t-shirts, a Florida Gators baseball cap, three Yankee candles, a bottle of Cocoa Butter Lotion, five deodorant sticks, six bottles of body wash, and a two-pack of toothpaste.
Post Miranda, Culver reportedly said she had not been in the store and Coleman gave her the backpack after he left the store.
Culver reportedly had 18 items worth $209.92 in her possession, including a 12-pack of Sprite, a bottle of Cocoa Butter lotion, six bottles of body wash, two packs of Gain laundry pods, a two-pack of razors, two packs of KT tape, and five deodorant sticks.
Coleman, who is described as homeless on the arrest report, has four felony convictions for drug possession, burglary, and dealing in stolen property. Judge Jonathan Ramsey set his bail at $2,500.
Culver has no local criminal history; she was arrested in June on a St. Lucie County warrant for fraudulent use of a credit card, but the charge was dropped after the arrest. Judge Ramsey released her on her own recognizance.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Just two more misguided youth trying to get their reparations they think they are owed.
Risked getting arrested for stealing Gator gear? They’re definitely in need of an education.
Considering the way the Gator season has started off, I’m surprised they wanted any Gator gear. 🙂
It was discounted.
Clearly they need assistance. Stealing personal hygiene is a strong indication of being homeless.
That doesn’t excuse the crime, but the system we pay taxes for is failing the homeless Youth.
Local government is responsible for this failure.
Seems the local voters need an education too.
Hold local government accountable.
How local government is responsible? I think their moms should have kept their legs closed instead of leaving kids rely on welfare and tax payers.
That’s the SWAG corridor, section 8 west. Where’s it say they’re homeless? Maybe they wanted to go to the Gator game tailgating in the hood next door, and mama taught them how to go shopping.

“Someone” I kinda agree with you. How much money is being spent to keep the Dis-Grace Center open? The young man could possibly be saved with proper help and guidance. How, sometimes society has to cut their loses and focus on what can work. Homeless in their 50’s as an example are set in their ways and or their lifestyle has caused medical issues. So, focus on those who can be saved like this young man. Where is his family? Sad situation. It would be nice of some church organization would go to jail and meet with him. And ask what they can do to help him. Give him hope? So, yes the Local Government has failed him and society by not setting standards for the Dis-Grace Center. All they ever here is how good they are doing and need more money, Baloney,
they need to be investigated.
You are part of the problem if you think the government is to blame for two ADULTS (not youth) for stealing. And honestly, stealing things like laundry pods, and bulk items of body wash, is a clear indication that they’re going to sell them for cheap to make a buck.
It’s their own problem. Not the government, not the community, and definitely NOT their parents. It’s time they take accountability
Losers.
What does reparations have to do with this? This court system is based on recidivism. It’s a billion dollars industry that funds jobsthough out this country.
[…] Story continues […]
They learned that in Socialism 101 taught in da hood.

Should have let them have Gator stuff for free!!
Sadly I see this all the time, walk in the stores with an empty backpak and try to leave with it full. The Home Depot on SW 75th are hip to it also. I seen several get busted there in the past few years. The staff there alert everyone when they see the backpak carriers.
It’s gonna get worse if Kamala gets elected and rations food because of inflation and enacts rent controls…
it will be the end of this country in 4 years if she’s elected and then new world order global totalitarianism…
.”you will own nothing and be happy”…

Great reset is the devils plan.

Freedom & Liberty are worth fighting for.

They’ll be eating the dogs 🐕, they’ll be eating the cats 🐈, they’ll be eating the pets when food is rationed 🥩‼️ You will have to eat bill gates lab grown meat from cancerous bovine cells they make C19 shots with…never waste a good crisis or let anything go to waste.
The great reset plan is to end world hunger for the greater good a la United Nations…Everyone will have SNAP on their phone…you will not be able to engage in commerce if you don’t get mandatory VAX shot from the WHO. End homelessness with rent control. Social justice score. Digital cash. Use fear of climate change/co2 regulations to control the people. Global health one where a rat has the same rights
As you… the UN is working on their Earth Summit treaty right now and it also extends to outer space… it’s for the greater good and utopian shangrila one world
Totalitarian government. They want this implemented within 5 years and want to accelerate the plan…it’s not conspiracy theory…
You can verify all these facts by going to UN, WHO , & Schwabs’ WEF websites.

Yep, they are going to kill off elephants in Africa to feed people. Where is the outcry?
Serious question for the local Newberritards: When this area secedes into the glorious conservative utopia of Springs County, WHAT WILL YOU DO DIFFERENTLY TO HANDLE THIS PROBLEM?
If you have no solution, you have no solution.
It’s called Law and Order. Something Wokesville Lacks. Party on and enjoy your crime ridden Sh!!thole created by Gainesville voters.
Law and order means lots of police and a big expensive jail housing lots of folks. How will Springs County pay for this with No Taxes? Future County Manager Lil Timmy promises No Taxes, unlike Alachua County. Will you borrow a press from the US Government and print your own money like they do? It appears Springs County folks can push a thumbs down button, but they cannot post any positive solutions, and how they will pay for them with No Taxes. Sad.
Homeless and not from here….shocking 🙄
Tons of entry level construction jobs available. BUT WAIT., they don’t pay the $25/hour these youths believe they are entitled to get.
Just can’t be punked into working low wage for the man. Just don’t realize they can learn a trade, and get $$
Anybody remember the days when it just bicycles ??? 😝
