PAM@Loften students create video about “100 deadliest days for teen drivers”

From “100 Deadliest Days Mock Crash” video

Press release from Florida Department of Transportation

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation, Florida Highway Patrol, and Alachua County Fire Rescue partnered with students from the Professional Academies Magnet at Loften High School to create a mock crash scene video to bring awareness to the “100 Deadliest Days for Teen Drivers.”

The 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day are nationally known as the most dangerous time of year for teen drivers. Studies by AAA indicate a sharp increase in fatal crashes with teens behind the wheel. Risky behaviors such as driving under the influence, distracted driving, and speeding can all cause crashes that lead to serious injuries and fatalities.

In the dramatization, students from Lofton High School’s Academy of Fire and EMS participated as injured drivers and passengers as first responders worked to free them from crashed vehicles. The resulting video, “100 Deadliest Days Mock Crash,” is a sobering reminder to teenage drivers to remember the rules of the road and keep themselves and their friends safe this summer.

  • This is a great teaching tool for any and everyone who has teenagers. A much needed reminder about the ramifications of distracted drivers. Thanks to FDOT and The Academy of Fire and Emergency Medical Services @ Loften High School for creating and sharing this video. Safe summer to all!
