Panhandler arrested for threatening to hit another panhandler with a golf club

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Skylar Andrew Stone, 43, was arrested on Sunday and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly threatening another panhandler with a golf club during a dispute over lane choices.

At about 11 a.m. on October 19, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 7300 block of West Newberry Road after a passerby called 911 to report that a man was threatening another person with a golf club. The caller provided a description of the man holding the golf club.

Deputies reportedly found Stone next to the victim, holding a golf club, and Stone appeared to be “agitated and hostile” toward the victim.

The victim reportedly said the two men had been discussing lane choices for panhandling when the conversation became “heated.” He said Stone retrieved a golf club from his belongings and raised it toward him.

Stone reportedly said he had used the golf club in self-defense, but witnesses reportedly said Stone was the aggressor.

Stone, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has one felony conviction (non-violent) and seven misdemeanor convictions (non-violent), and Judge Jonathan Ramsey set bail at $10,000 and ordered that he be screened for Mental Health Court.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Face it, the money is better by panhandling in a college town where Mom and Dad refill the Babies’ bank accounts than by doing actual work for a living. Hence there are feuds over the most profitable panhandling stations.

  • Don’t fight, bums. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Gainesville commissioners were working on an app to let you book an intersection to grift.

  • They license, regulate and tax the crap out of everything from owning a dog to pushing a hotdog cart to game-day parking profits. The Commies in City Hall don’t want their ‘fair share’ of panhandler profits??? If you observe a busy ‘lane’ and a sympathetic ‘operator’ [pitiful/little dog/older] they make an admirable tax-free profit. I have even observed ‘shift changes’ at the really good spots. Taxing and regulating ‘lanes’ could make up for the shortfall from their GRU cash-cow that was wrenched from their greedy little hands.

  • They get a fair share of homeless profits. Grants to Grace Marketplace must help. Expanding by selling 27 acres for a dollar. More grants. More crime. Could have had a real sale and used the money to fix one or two pot holes.

  • There’s a serious problem when people argue over which lanes they’re going to panhandle.

All of you liberal voting idiots in Gainesville – this is what you’ve voted for because I didn’t.

    Hope you’re happy with yourselves.

On a side note, since panhandling is supposed to be illegal, did LEOs take both to jail?
