Peabody Hall evacuated for suspicious package
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – According to a release from University of Florida Public Safety, a suspicious package caused Peabody Hall to be evacuated this morning, but the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad determined that the package did not contain any hazardous or explosive material.
A university staff member called the University of Florida Police Department at about 8 a.m. to report an oddly taped cylindrical tube that had been delivered to the administrative building by an unknown person. Out of an abundance of caution, the occupants of the building were evacuated by law enforcement officers.
Once both agencies determined there was no threat to public safety, normal operations resumed at Peabody Hall at about 10:15 a.m. According to the release, the incident did not cause any academic disruptions.
Better safe than sorry. Good work.
