Pedestrian killed on I-75

MICANOPY, Fla. – A woman was killed early this morning when she was hit by a vehicle while walking in the center lane of I-75.

At about 12:10 a.m. on February 10, an SUV was traveling southbound in the center lane of I-75, driven by a 57-year-old man from Miami. Near the 374 mile marker, the SUV hit a female pedestrian who was walking in the center lane, and the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The occupants of the SUV were not injured. No further information was released about the deceased woman.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Office reported that calls were received at about 12:06 a.m. about a person walking in the center lane, wearing dark clothing and difficult to see. While deputies were on their way to the area, another call was received that a person had been hit. Deputies arrived and began lifesaving efforts until EMS personnel arrived.

Sheriff Chad Scott said, “This is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly tragedy can occur on our roadways, especially in low visibility conditions. We are grateful to our deputies and emergency responders who acted immediately, and we ask our community to keep those impacted by this loss in their thoughts.”
