Press release from Alachua County Fire Rescue

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – This afternoon at approximately 2:13 p.m., Alachua County Fire Rescue, with assistance from the Florida Department of Forestry, responded to a brush fire in a retention area that was surrounded by several apartment complexes between W University Ave and SW 8th Ave.

The first arriving engine company, Engine #80, reported a fire of approximately 3-5 acres and requested additional units. A total of 3 Brush Trucks, 2 Engines, and 2 Chief Officers, with the aid of Alachua County Fire Rescue’s Drone Team, were able to contain the fire to about 8 acres.

The Florida Department of Forestry was called, and they arrived on scene with a plow and plowed a line around the fire to prevent it from spreading. There were no injuries, and no structures were damaged.  Alachua County Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to be aware of the dry conditions and increased fire danger.
