GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Fire crews responded to a Gainesville home this morning, extinguished a fire on the back side of the home, and rescued a cat.

At about 5:30 a.m. on October 25, Gainesville Fire Rescue crews responded to a residential structure fire in the 2900 block of SW 4th Court. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back side of the house. Crews quickly went into offensive mode and were able to bring the fire under control. All residents made it out safely, and firefighters rescued one cat from inside the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Please remember to keep grills at least 10 feet away from your home, deck railings, and overhanging branches. Never leave a grill unattended, and make sure it’s completely cool before storing it.
