Poe wants 1% positivity and 75% vaccination before ending mask mandate

Today at the end of the afternoon session of the Gainesville City Commission meeting, Mayor Lauren Poe said he’d had a discussion with the City Manager about the possibility that the County might rescind their mask order. “You know, clearly, it is too early to do that.”
City Manager Lee Feldman said that Dr. Michael Lauzardo of UF said at a community leader meeting that he “had the impression that masks should continue unless we have a positivity rate of 1% and single digit cases” in the county.
Poe added that he had been “thinking about this from a little bit different perspective… the indication has been that we achieve herd immunity at 75% vaccination rate. So to me, that seems like our goal, our likely target because today we can measure that… Once we get to that 75% vaccination rate, we’ll see sub-1% positivity rates and single digit new infections, that’s the nature of herd immunity.”
He said he wanted to “give the City Manager our endorsement that we support him continuing a mask order within the city limits, regardless of what the County does or does not do at the next meeting.”
Commissioner Adrian Hayes-Santos said he’d been speaking to one of the county commissioners, and “there’s a coordinated effort to put pressure on the county commission… I was hoping to do a press release that the City of Gainesville supports the mask mandate and to support the Board of County Commissioners because the residents know they need to speak up now if they want to keep it. I would ask if we can do a press release that we support the mask mandate and we ask our residents to contact the BoCC to try to get some press on the issue.”
The motion to issue a press release passed unanimously.

Poe just came out as “panstupid” as well. He knows so much about nothing, he can’t decide which direction his stupidity leads.
Here’s a thought of common sense sice leadership, county and city apparently doesn’t have much. Since the vaccine has now become available to so many, he should mandate anyone who works for and within the city get the vaccine. If they do not, put those individuals on administrative leave…WITHOUT PAY. I bet that would get some lazy people back to work.
Don’t give some excuse that you can’t do that because it infringes on their rights. What the hell do you think you idiots have been doing to ours for the past 13 months?

The city commission is making a “coordinated effort” to tell another governing body what they should be doing and how they should be doing it? Great…excellent use of your time and taxpayer resources.
The ACC will consider lifting the mask mandate at its next meeting with an effective date of the end of April. Does anyone believe that if, by the end of April, the county is meeting Poe’s targets (1% positive rate and 75% vaccination rate) that he will say “ok, I agree with masking masks voluntary” or will he move the goal posts and want different numbers?
My bet is he’ll move the goalposts again.
I would much rather him move away…like to another galaxy away. California or Washington would suit me just fine. Hawaii would be better. Heard he likes it there. If he decided to come back to the US mainland, make hime get a negative Covid test 5 minutes prior to boarding any flight. If he wants to visit Florida, Governor DeSantis could mandate he provide a negative test result prior to entering the state and then just to make sure we’re safe from that idiot, make him quarantine for 10 years at Grace Market.
