“Porch pirate” arrested after allegedly stealing packages from front porches in Newberry
Staff report
NEWBERRY, Fla. – Terrell Shane Rhine, 40, was arrested yesterday and charged with two counts of grand theft over $750 and two counts of armed burglary after allegedly stealing packages from front porches in Newberry.
Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to both incidents. The first victim said a package had been placed on a covered front porch and that his doorbell camera had captured a man taking the box and then leaving in a small gray pickup truck. The man was wearing a black hooded jacket and camouflage pants.
The second victim reported that a package placed on a covered front porch was taken by a man wearing the same clothing reported by the first victim; this incident was also captured on a doorbell camera, and the suspect also left in a small gray pickup truck.
Deputies made contact with a small gray pickup truck at the Newberry Car Wash and detained the driver, who was reportedly wearing camouflage pants and had a black hooded jacket on the passenger seat. Both packages were reportedly found in the truck.
Alachua County Sheriff’s Office has posted one of the doorbell videos here.
Post Miranda, Rhine reportedly declined to answer questions about the thefts and said he was in Newberry to pick up his son. In a later interview, he reportedly said he had two knives when he took the items.
Rhine has two misdemeanor convictions (none violent) and completed a pre-trial intervention agreement on a felony fleeing charge in 2011. Judge Aymer “Buck” Curtin set bail at $20,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Dude resembles Nicolas Cage in “Con Air.”
Wonder if they’ll reopen “The Rock” anytime soon.
Rumor has it there’s a doppelganger for everyone somewhere.
He looks like he’s a few cards short.
Porch-pirates are some of the lowest of the low. Other countries they’d whack your hand off for a thing like that.
OMG so much porch crime in the heart of the future utopia of Springs County. What a shole that county is going to be.
Of course it’s a POS from the great liberal mecca called Gainesville that is praying on the good citizens of the future Springs County. I wonder if you realized that or maybe you are the idiot of the day.
Damn it Buck! if you see a piece of sh!t like this at 1st appearance and are gonna set a low bail, it should be that he get a hair cut & shave before he’s released from the slammer or the bail is doubled. High bails work as a deterrent. He needs to learn his lesson that crime don’t pay.
Throw the book at this low life. He’s a thief who would rather steal than work.
Amazon and Walmart, etc should be required to send serial numbers to the pawn shop network, as soon as something of value (and with serial numbers) is shipped out. The porch pirates are exploiting a loophole.
Exploiting a loophole? the porch pirates are using the internet to sell their their stuff… Amazon & Walmart should be required to send serial numbers to eBay, offer up, let go, Craig’s list, face book marketplace, etc. where does it stop JeffK? You want AI checking the stuff in flea markets too? This is what happens when deliveries are left on front porches…thieves will steal anything in Gainesville left on your front porch, locked or unlocked.
Far from a liberal and I don’t care for people who steal, but I will say I’ve known Shane for several years and this isn’t him. He’s normally a hard worker who makes money the legit way. Sad to see.
False. He stole from my buisness 10 years ago. I trusted him because my brother in law is his friend
This bum stole from my buisness 10 years ago. While Karna may act slowly “the trash takes itself out”
