Portion of NW 8th Avenue to close Saturday for road repairs

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The City of Gainesville will close a portion of NW 8th Avenue this Saturday, June 7, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. as Public Works teams assess damage caused by a failed storm water pipe.
Repairs to the stretch of NW 8th Avenue between NW 6th and NW 12th Streets are expected to be completed Saturday. Neighbors are advised to follow posted detour signs and use alternate routes around the corridor.
The City’s urban forestry team will also be on-site to structurally prune trees along the route while the roadway is closed to traffic.

I live in the Duck Pond and go across 8th Avenue daily. I seldom see a bicycle but I do see a lot of cars. Now they are backed up at the Main Street and 8th Avenue traffic light heading east. What brainless group came up with this brilliant idea?

Dumbass. You do realize it’s the commissioners you likely voted for who recently put in metered/pay by the app parking don’t you? Pedestrians are supposed to use sidewalks and there was already signage that bicycles had use of streets when a bike lane was not marked. Maybe they’re just admitting, (the commission), that cyclists aren’t smart enough to read the signs or don’t understand traffic laws.
Maybe you should actually get out and walk around a little instead of talking a lot of BS.
