Press release from the City of Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Construction fencing is scheduled to be installed Monday, Aug. 4, as site preparation begins for Alachua County’s new civil courthouse and parking garage in downtown Gainesville.

While parking at the courthouse is expected to be unavailable during construction, nearby downtown public parking is available as follows:

  • Parking in Lots 2, 3 and 4 are free 24/7.
  • Downtown parking is free before 10 a.m. and after 8 p.m. weekdays, as designated.
  • Downtown parking is free all day on weekends and city-observed holidays–except for spaces in the municipal parking garage at 105 SW 3rd St.

Outside of those hours, on-street parking in the core of downtown costs $0.25/hour or $0.50/hour, Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. as designated. All pay stations accept both coins and credit cards for parking in nearby downtown parking zones. Drivers also can pay for parking online, via the PassportParking® app or by calling 352-290-3700. Employees of downtown businesses may purchase a discounted monthly permit for the municipal garage at $20/mo.

    • They’ll probably turn the old one into apartments for the homeless.

      • It has been stated in numerous Board meetings that the old Civil Courthouse will serve as the new County administration building. The purpose of this project is to create a court complex similar to those found in other counties and cities, where all courthouses and related services are consolidated in a single location, rather than being spread out.

        • Old courthouse, is the current County Admin building. Not the really, really old one in Newnansville.
          What’s to become of it?
