FOUND: Dog running at large in Bivens Cove area following serious incident

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Update: The dog has been located and is in the custody of Alachua County.

Local law enforcement and Animal Services are actively searching for a dog involved in a serious incident earlier today in which the owner sustained significant injuries. The dog is currently running at large.
The animal is described as a male Shar Pei/Rottweiler mix, approximately 90 pounds, with a blue brindle coat. The dog was last seen in the area of Bivens Cove Apartments, 3301 SW 13th Street, Gainesville.
Out of an abundance of caution, residents in the area are urged to remain vigilant.
If you see this dog:
- Do not approach or attempt to capture the animal
- Call 911 immediately
- If it is safe to do so, maintain a visual on the dog until officers arrive
Law enforcement and Animal Enforcement Officers remain on scene and are actively working to locate and safely secure the animal. Public safety is the highest priority, and cooperation from the community is critical to resolving this situation as quickly and safely as possible. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
If you’re attacked and carrying, just put it down.
Problem solved and they can still check for rabies.
Come to think of it, that helps for other animals too.
People forget it is an animal. I love my Dog but if he bites on of my kids he is getting put down. Crazy how all these people will choose an animal over another human. Says a lot with 5 thumbs down
A guy I knew had the skin on his entire lower arm torn up by his dog when he came home drunk one night, according to his recollection when I asked him about the huge scars. He said his dog let go as soon as he called out the dog’s name. Kind of late at that point.
The way to determine if a dog has rabies, is to examine the brain. For that reason you should NOT shoot the dog in the head.
Unfortunately, I feel compelled to carry when I walk my little dog. I had yet another close encounter recently with dangerous dogs. I have yet to be forced to retaliate with deadly force. The Pit Bull mix is the obnoxious thug of the canine world.
