Public Works completes resurfacing of SW 143rd Avenue in Archer

ARCHER, Fla. – The Alachua County Public Works Department is pleased to announce the completion of the resurfacing of Southwest 143rd Avenue, located in the City of Archer.

This roadway improvement was made possible through collaboration between the City of Archer and Alachua County, with funding from the voter-approved Wild Spaces Public Places/Infrastructure surtax.

During a joint meeting in April between the Archer and the Alachua County Commissions, the City requested County assistance in resurfacing Southwest 143rd Avenue. At the time, the County was already working with a contractor to widen and resurface the nearby Southwest 170th Street (C.R. 241), extending to the Levy County line. Recognizing the opportunity for cost savings and efficiency, the County offered to oversee inspections and project management for the Southwest 143rd Avenue resurfacing as well.

“The partnership not only saved taxpayer dollars but also allowed for the project’s early completion,” said Interim Archer City Manager Deanna Alltop.

The City of Archer reimbursed the County for its portion of the costs through its share of the infrastructure surtax funds.

“This project is a great example of how the Wild Spaces Public Places/Infrastructure surtax is directly benefiting our community,” said County Commission Chair Chuck Chestnut. “It also highlights the power of local governments working together to accomplish more and deliver quality improvements for our residents.”
