Ramp from I-75 South to Newberry Road to close overnight next week for high-friction surface treatment

Press release from Florida Department of Transportation

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The ramp from I-75 South to Newberry Road (State Road 26) will close overnight next week as crews prepare the installation of a high-friction pavement surface to improve safety and reduce crashes.

Beginning Sunday, July 9, through Thursday, July 13, the ramp will close nightly at 9 p.m. and reopen by 5:30 a.m. the following morning. Drivers will be detoured via SW Archer Road to I-75 North to access Newberry Road.

The ramp will be milled and resurfaced, followed by a high-friction application. The application consists of a thin layer of high-quality, polish-resistant aggregate bonded to the pavement surface with a polymer resin binder. In Florida, the application has reduced the rate of total crashes on ramps by 32 percent and decreased wet weather crashes by 75 percent.

  • Are they ever going to fix the potholes on 23rd ave, 39th ave, the road in front of Santa Fe, and Ft. Clarke Blvd? It’s crazy how much money they spend on “other” things instead of fixing the real issues!
