Rep. Cammack introduces resolution to prohibit foreign nations’ flags on the House floor

Press release from Congresswoman Kat Cammack

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Kat Cammack introduced her resolution to prohibit Members of the House of Representatives from bringing or displaying a flag of a foreign nation on the floor of the House.

The prohibition shall apply to a flag of a foreign nation regardless of the size of the flag. Exceptions include a flag of a foreign nation worn as a lapel pin by a Member, Delegate, or Resident Commissioner, and the depiction of a flag of a foreign nation used as part of an exhibit during a speech or debate under the rules of the House of Representatives. The Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives is responsible for enforcement of the prohibition.

Following the passage on H.R. 8035 on Saturday, April 20, lawmakers waved the flag of Ukraine on the floor of the House of Representatives, eliciting frustration from Rep. Cammack and colleagues.

“On the floor of the United States House of Representatives, there should only be one flag on display: ours,” said Rep. Cammack. “We make serious decisions on behalf of the American people and their taxpayer dollars on the House floor. This business should be carried out beneath no other banner than our stars and stripes to remind us of who we represent and why this nation is the greatest in the history of the world. I’m glad to have earned the support of dozens of my colleagues who join me in standing up for the American people and putting our nation before all others.”

“House Democrats confirmed the foreign aid supplementals’ betrayal of America by standing on the floor of the People’s House, there on taxpayer dollars, waving the flag of a corrupt foreign nation receiving billions while the southern border remains wide open and our nation approaches $35 trillion in debt,” said Rep. Harriet Hageman. “The House of Representatives is where the American people, and the American people only, are represented and participate in their government. Nothing other than the red, white, and blue should fly in the House, and I am proud to cosponsor this resolution which reminds members of the House of Representatives where their loyalty lies.”

“The United States House of Representatives works for one body and one country. It is unacceptable for a Member to be waving any flag on the House floor that is not the American flag. I appreciate the leadership of Rep. Cammack on this issue,” said Rep. Stephanie Bice.

“I am a member of the United States House of Representatives, not the parliament of another nation. Every Member of the House is an American before they are a Republican or Democrat. I only wore one flag on my uniform during my time in the military, and there should only be one flag flown in the People’s House, that is the American flag. There are many ways to show respect to our allies, but displaying their flags on the House Floor is not one of them,” said Rep. Derrick Van Orden.

“The American flag stands for the American people and represents the oath we take as elected officials to bear true faith and allegiance to the United States Constitution,” said Rep. Brad Finstad. “It is despicable that sitting Members of Congress would fly the flag of a foreign nation on the House Floor, which is why I am proud to support Rep. Cammack’s resolution protecting the integrity of the People’s House by ensuring that the only flag flown within the Halls of Congress is the American flag.”

“On the House floor, we don’t indulge in virtue signaling. We’re here to make tough decisions that prioritize American interests. That’s why we stand by the American flag alone. No other nation should ever take precedence over ours; we wave the American flag on the House floor only. That’s why we’re backing this resolution,” said the Office of Rep. Nancy Mace.

“Last year, Democrats objected to saying the Pledge of Allegiance before committee hearings,” said Rep. Russell Fry. “Now, they wave Ukrainian flags on the House floor. Elected leaders that represent the United States should take pride in showing patriotism for their own country, but unfortunately Democrats would rather show support for other countries than their own.”

“I am proud to join my colleagues as a cosponsor of the American Flag Resolution,” said Rep. Van Drew. “For almost 250 years, the flag of the United States of America has flown as a symbol of liberty, democracy, and the enduring spirit of our nation. In our legislative chambers, it serves as a steadfast reminder that our duty is to serve the American people above all else. Any attempt to wave another flag in this chamber not only undermines this fact, but it also diminishes the very essence of our nation.”

Cosponsors at the time of introduction include Reps. Alford, Allen, Babin, Bice, Bilirakis, Collins, D’Esposito, Donalds, Finstad, Fischbach, Fry, Hageman, Andy Harris, Houchin, Ronny Jackson, Langworthy, Laurel Lee, Luna, Luttrell, Mace, Malliotakis, Maloy, Max Miller, Miller-Meeks, Mills, Jason Smith, Tenney, Timmons, Van Drew, Van Orden, and Wenstrup.

  • Kat Cammack is an embarrassment to our community. So happy to see that she has a GOP challenger in this district.

    • Thankful she has the balls to stand up for the American people which she was voted in to represent.

      • What are you talking about? Her 1st act was to try and overturn the 2020 presidential election by throwing out the votes of states which her hero lost. She’s a traitor who will do anything that low life tells her to do.

    • I could care less her reasons. The point is, there shouldn’t be another nation’s flag waived and celebrated within any chamber of Congress.

  • Only the American flag should be in the house and no commie face diapers should be worn in there either.

  • No qualms of having Confederate Battle flags etc. throughout on Jan 6th?
She is embarrassing – she & Rubio & Scott voted with Putin not to fund Ukraine last week.

    • Ukraine didn’t allow elections after starting their pre-planned civil war.

  • I bet that piece of legislation will put the fear of God into folks.

  • It’s sad how we need laws for common sense and decency more and more nowadays. A sign of our times 💩🤡👿👹D

  • Pretty rich coming from the lady who flies/flew an Israeli flag outside her office from the very first day she started.
