Rep. Cammack, Rep. Moskowitz lead Florida colleagues in bipartisan hurricane recovery letter to Pres. Biden

Press release from the Office of Rep. Kat Cammack

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — As Hurricane Debby makes its way across Florida and the southeast this afternoon, Congresswoman Cammack (R-FL-03) and Congressman Jared Moskowitz (D-FL-23) led a letter with their Florida colleagues to President Biden requesting the activation of Public Assistance Category A (debris removal) in the storm’s aftermath.

Florida members on the letter include Sen. Marco Rubio, Rep. Neal Dunn, Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, Rep. Vern Buchanan, Rep. Michael Waltz, Rep. Gus Bilirakis, Rep. Bill Posey, Rep. Daniel Webster, Rep. Greg Steube, Rep. Cory Mills, Rep. Carlos Gimenez, Rep. Aaron Bean, Rep. Brian Mast, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, Rep. Scott Franklin, Rep. John Rutherford, Rep. Matt Gaetz, Rep. Byron Donalds, Rep. Darren Soto, Rep. Maxwell Frost, Rep. Kathy Castor, Rep. Sheila Cherfilus McCormick, Rep. Lois Frankel, Rep. Frederica Wilson, and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

The text of the letter is below.

Dear Mr. President,

We write to express our strong support for the State of Florida’s request for the activation of Public Assistance Category A (Debris Removal) as Hurricane Debby made landfall near Steinhatchee in Florida’s Big Bend. We appreciate the approval of the Public Assistance Category B (Emergency Protective Measures) but believe that Category A (Debris Removal) is critical to ensuring the safety and recovery of our communities in the aftermath of the storm.

Hurricane Debby continues to bring severe weather conditions, including high winds, heavy rainfall, and flooding, posing a significant threat to public safety and infrastructure. By granting approval for Category A Public Assistance, we can efficiently mobilize resources, coordinate debris removal efforts, and mitigate the risks associated with post-storm debris.

The approval of Category A will enable local and state agencies to:

  • Accelerate Debris Removal: Immediate removal of debris will reduce hazards to life and property, ensuring that emergency services and utility restoration can proceed without delay.
  • Enhance Public Safety: Clearing roads and public spaces of debris will facilitate safe evacuation routes and access for emergency responders.
  • Minimize Environmental Impact: Swift debris removal will prevent environmental contamination and secondary hazards that can arise from accumulated debris.
  • Optimize Resource Allocation: Approval will streamline the deployment of personnel and equipment, allowing for a more efficient and cost-effective response.

Given the current impacts and continued severity of Hurricane Debby, your prompt approval of State of Florida’s request is essential and will assist our communities by reducing the recovery time post-storm.

We respectfully ask, within all applicable rules and regulation, that you urgently review and respond to the State of Florida’s request and issue the activation of Public Assistance Category A (Debris Removal) in response to Hurricane Debby. We also ask that you expedite any additional requests for assistance the state may subsequently submit.

  • Everyone is a conservative, until they see an opportunity to grab a public welfare handout! Where’s your “let’s reduce government spending” talking point today??!?

    • Probably in the envelope with the insurance claim or waiting on some ambulance chasing attorney to visit offering to “force” the insurance company to pay for that limb that fell.

    • What a choice for Phat Cammack to make. “Do I follow my principles as a fiscal conservative Republican and refuse borrowed deficit money, or do I beg “free” Federal money to hand to my peoples to buy votes in an election year, something we Republicans used to accuse Democrats of doing?”

      • It’ll be the only thing worthwhile she has done all year. I regret voting for her.

    • Just like everyone is a liberal until they have to buy the next round of drinks. Kamala and Jill sent your “talking points” over to Ukraine and Israel, along with all your money! Vote Blue no Matter who it’s for democracy!

  • Funny how respectful Cammack is to President Biden when she wants something from the federal government.

Yet such a hag the rest of the time. It’s all performance art to the far-right clowns who have destroyed everything the Republican party used to stand for.

  • This is normal in every declared disaster. Basic FEMA structure. Only states and municipalities that have an emergency plan can request from what I recall. Wtf do I know? I went to school for EM

  • This is exactly why politicians engaging in constant partisan warfare is not in the public interest, and both Cammack and DeSantis have been attacking the president almost daily since they got into office. He, being the better man and leader, has not reciprocated except to show up with checks after hurricanes and condos collapsing, and by sending money via the infrastructure bill to red states as often or more than blue – as an example, see rural broadband access which Cammack promised, voted against, and now Biden is delivering.

Good leaders don’t engage in constant partisan BS but work in the common interest with their counterparts, also elected by the people.

    • Cammack is trying so hard emerge as Florida’s MTG but she doesn’t have the edge. The lame performance art might play on her YouTube channel but isn’t working anywhere else. All she does is embarrass our community and our state.

I wish that, no matter their politics, these elected officials would just stop with the drama and do their jobs, represent everyone in their community.

    • Jazz: It has been a loooong time since anyone has accused today’s Republican politicians of being “good leaders.” They are, however, “good followers”, as long as they are following Dear Leader Trump. Sad.

      • I am so glad i cast my vote in the primaries for Kamala. I wouldn’t listen to all of those DNC leaders and media figures who said Joe was as sharp as a tack. Vote Blue no Matter who it’s for democracy!

    • Joe can’t even lead himself to the toilet. Joe wasn’t elected he was installed! Tptb stole the primary from Bernie because the party of democracy just can’t trust the voters enough to make the right choice. And none of the internet $$ that was allocated in 2021 has been spent yet. I heard all of rural Ukraine has high speed internet, pretty sweet! Vote blue no matter who, it’s for Democracy!

      • Hillary beat Bernie by 3.5 million votes in the 2016 primary, 55% to 42%.

        Try to keep up.
