Rep. Chad Johnson tables local bill that would have clarified GRU Authority’s powers
Press release from Rep. Chad Johnson
CHIEFLAND, Fla. – At the January 9, 2025, Alachua County Legislative Delegation Hearing, Representative Chad Johnson (R-Chiefland) will request his motion to consider draft legislation related to Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) be tabled for future consideration by the delegation.
Representative Chad Johnson stated, “In the name of transparency, my office shared a draft of legislation with the members of the Alachua County Legislative Delegation along with notes to explain the provisions of the proposed bill. The legislative intent of the proposed bill is to improve language and provide greater clarity about the existing HB 1645. We believe that HB 1645 is indestructible as it has survived all previous court challenges to this point. GRU shared concerns from bond issuers, and a portion of the proposed bill was designed to instill confidence in the GRU authority. Due to time constraints and bill filing deadlines, I felt this was the most opportune time to consider the proposed bill. I am fully confident that HB 1645 will withstand all current and future legal challenges, and I have chosen to table the discussion for now to get greater input from all stakeholders involved, so that we can all move forward together to build the strongest possible utility for the ratepayers.”
Keep it in your back pocket. The losers at City Hall aren’t real bright. Even today their Zero Hero Ukraine/China Joe Big Guy claims he could have won the presidential election. They will be in defeat denial for decades.
Don’t believe for a second this is ‘tabled’. Look for him to pull a Clemons mid session. FPL and Bullarski ain’t giving up that easy.
Someone told Chad to sit down and shut up.
Tell this carpetbagger to stay in Chiefland and Tallahassee. Alachua County and Gainesville voters already told him that in November.
Arreola never was and never will be a serious candidate outside the microcosm of Gainesville. That’s the only good thing about living in the craziest city… it’s usually the end of the line for the ignorant, unhinged, bossy Dems we always seem to wind up with in office here. I guess that’s why they fight so viciously to keep their little city and county positions for as long as they possibly can.
