Rescue crews extricate driver from collision with power pole

Press release from Alachua County Fire Rescue
At approximately 10:52 p.m. last night, crews from Gainesville Fire Rescue and Alachua County Fire Rescue responded to a single vehicle versus power pole accident off of NE 39th Ave. There were two occupants in the vehicle. One adult male subject had removed himself from the vehicle prior to arrival of Fire Rescue. Another male subject, the driver, had to be extricated from the vehicle.
It took approximately two hours and 40 minutes to get the driver out because the power had to be secured before extrication could begin. Trauma alerts were issued for both occupants, and they were transported to Shands at UF.
Alachua County Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to wear their seatbelts and be careful when driving at night. The wreck is under investigation. Â

NE 39th Avenue and near what cross street?
That’s all the information provided in the release. They usually do provide a cross street, but not this time.
It was in front of lamp lighter
It looks like the airport fence past Copeland if you’re headed East…there’s
No cross street on that stretch. It looks like the airport
Fence at the end of the runway on NE 39th Blvd…
That’s my guess.
No. They don’t have street lights there. It’s a section
On 39th near DOT & lamplighter just before Copeland then..
