Resident at The Standard arrested for causing $20,000 damage to elevators

BY JENNIFER CABRERA
Howard Daniel McPherson, 19, was arrested yesterday evening after employees at The Standard (1360 W University Avenue) reported damage to the glass entrance door, a window, and the elevator.
According to the arrest report, McPherson returned to the apartment complex at about 2:30 a.m. Friday morning through the leasing office entrance. Surveillance video reportedly showed him kicking the glass entrance door, the window, and the panel to the elevator. Management obtained an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000 to repair the damage to the elevator.
Post Miranda, McPherson reportedly admitted to causing the damage and said he had been intoxicated after attending a party. He has been charged with criminal mischief over $1,000, a third-degree felony, and is being held on $5,000 bail.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
He qualifies now for future elective office. After his helicopter parents woop his butt.
Target in The Standard is closing on June 11. These multi-use buildings are all a big scam. There is never enough foot traffic to support the businesses in a multi-use building unless they are in a LARGE city. I wouldn’t be surprised if this kid feels he got suckered into some expensive lifestyle apartment when he might be happier in a regular building (not like a big beehive) further away from campus. He’s got vagrants all over outside and now Target is closing. That’s no excuse for damaging the elevator, but I have heard that living there is not ‘all that’.
Open space. Maybe they’ll allow it to house the growing homeless population. All they have to is put in individual office dividers to separate the residents and I’m sure it has a community restroom already.
Let’s see just how far their concern goes. We’ve seen how far their hypocrisy goes.
Shhhhh. Keep it quiet! Those liberal nutters just might rent the Target space and turn it into a multi
Purpose homeless shelter loaded with cots and
Set up a Krishna like soup kitchen & feed the homeless there like the crazy cat lady feeds feral cats..
If the Target becomes a homeless camp, they might hang out at the Publix across the street all day. Somehow seems like there will be a halt to that, but who knows in CrazyCrimeTownGainesville proud to make you so ill with subsidized evil
Sick subsidized evil. Is the plan to turn University Avenue into a 2-lane toll road (by smartphony phone payment of course) while also lining those same roads with homeless?
Whoa! Is that the plan? Turn University Avenue into a 2-lane toll road by smartphony
Phone payment like the parking or pay by tag?
That doesn’t sound far fetched and is possible.
“No toll to the troll!”

All the angry/violent mentally ill vagrants are probably half the reason Target is closing. I don’t doubt they hang out there all day in the a/c and make frequent use of the bathrooms. You might smell them before you can see them, if anyone cares to go down to Target in The Standard and check it out in the next month before it closes. Miami Grill closed although it was never that busy. The pizza place next to it was always super-busy and they (inexplicably) decided to close. I wouldn’t be surprised if the vagrants helped them make that decision. It’s not worth having an employee assaulted, raped, or worse. It’s too bad our city “leaders” don’t have the common sense or moral decency to try to protect us citizens, which would also help those businesses and their employees feel safe and secure. I am not against helping the homeless and unfortunate, but clearly it has gone way beyond that and Grace draws drifters and vagrants from all over. In a normal thriving business community, there would be more charity money at work to help those who really need help, which does not include every lazy drunk who wants to lay out in the Florida sun all day and ogle sorority girls.
They close because there’s no open air parking. Women will not park alone in a parking garage open to violent psycho homeless muggers, that’s why.
Mr. Peabody did not know but grew long paragraph of prose
the underground economy of sorority girls
the underground economy of sorority girls and their nearest twirls just trying to pay their gainesville bills
If the city stops serving alcohol at 10pm this could
Have been avoided. It’s the city’s fault. They want
To do an ordinance on food places and their food waste?
Shut down bars @ 10pm and lower the city’s carbon
Footprint. Shut the city down at 10pm.
Whomever served the booze to the minor may be
Liable. Was he at a frat party?
I would favor a 4 a.m. closing time, if some places want to do that. Stop serving alcohol at 2, but let people hang out, buy food/coffee/etc, and sober up instead of kicking them all out into the street at the same time. That’s what causes problems. More people out and about later means more potential witnesses to crimes that happen late at night, which is a good thing since it probably has a deterrent effect. I don’t like feeling like I’m living in The Villages where everyone is in bed by 10 or 11 p.m.
I heard st aug wants to close restaurants at 10pm.
This is a College town and students need to be studying…Not getting DUI’s or getting run over
Trying to cross University Ave. The underaged
A/hole in this article can’t handle his liquor. I am
Fine with bars staying open too but not at the expense of our college youth. A lot of gun violence,
Black on black crime shootings happen. As far as witnesses, there’s cameras everywhere already. Mr. Peabody, you may be a responsible drinker, but
Unfortunately many people are going over their limit and
Get sloppy drunk…And then we also need the party patrol
For when they throw those big parties in residential
Neighborhoods. I guarantee you I will call the cops to
Shut the party down because of noise when I have
To be at work in the morning.
A lot of people have night classes that don’t get out until 10 p.m. Or night exams. Enforce the drinking age and there will be a lot fewer issues. The problem is some bars look the other way in order to make more money or simply to stay afloat. He broke some stuff – so what. We’re not leftists who must have a knee-jerk reaction and start trying to enforce new rules on everyone because of one bozo.
Why not NO closing time? Then we can let Darwin decide how much longer before more curbside dunces and drivers get the gene pool back on track.
Darwin? Galton?
I guess his elevator didn’t go all the way to the top floor.
