‘Rest assured, we’re looking out for your money!’

Editor’s note: The Board of County Commissioners reduced the property tax rate by 0.018 mills for the upcoming fiscal year, but most property owners will pay higher taxes because of increasing property values.

  • Seeing as how the liberal lemmings have difficulties understanding pictures at times:

A decrease of 0.018 in the millage rate means the tax is reduced by $0.018 for every $1,000 of assessed value.
The good news is the millage rate dropped to .18%. The bad, (and good), news is property values have gone up. Some reports estimate an increase of 1.6%, (on average).
Guess what, 1.6 – .18 = 1.42. Taxes up. How many applications were filed with the Value Adjustment Board for relief?

🤔 Anyone else wondering what’s REALLY happening with those property taxes? We already know the School Board is overpaying for a Superintendent and the City is trying to replace GRU income that was lost. I guess we’ll have to wait for the State’s report.

    Thanks Jake!

  • File a records request with the county for all emails to or from county commissioners that include the terms property tax or millage. You people complain but have no clue how to investigate to get to the root of the problem, which means you continue to be taken advantage of and all you can do is complain because you as citizens lack the ability to get to the bottom of things.
Stop complaining if you aren’t going to figure out what the problem is and then attack it.
Who are the Chestnuts, and why have they held power over the black community for so long?
Never forget the video of Cynthia Chestnut and Bryan Eastman laughing at the idea of presenting Clarence Thomas a key to the city.

    • For sure, in the “town” of UF, somebody should be smart enough to get to the bottom of things!

    • You people? What people? The idiots who keep voting for the current crop of financially incompetent idiots?

Do you vote policy or party? Most of us know how the majority in Alachua County vote.

      • I was speaking with a lady at Depot the other day, and I said to her…”Do you really expect fiscal responsibility from people who thought a man could be a women, but couldn’t define what a woman was?”
        Madness, I tell you… Madness.
Remember the definition of a devil is a deceiver, and who tried to deceive us into thinking men could be women and vice versa?
This is a spiritual battle taking place, natural and orderly, vs unnatural and disorderly.

To answer your second question, policy nor party dictate my position, my mind does. Which often involves doing the research, checking out the rabbit holes, and applying historical context and the outcomes that have resulted.

        • Agreed.

Those “you people” you address should read more of the comments here but as you’ve mentioned, they still wouldn’t have a clue and even then would refuse to acknowledge what has continued to degrade society.

They continue to vote for it – I don’t.

        • Common, speaking of “fiscal responsibility”, you apparently don’t understand that Trump added more to the debt in his 1st term than Biden who was dealing with Covid and it’s economic fallout for most of his term. Do you get that the budget Trump and the GOP passed a couple of months ago is projected to add another $4-5 trillion to the debt over 10 years, and possibly more? And you’re worried about an issuse that personally affects thousands, not millions, of Americans?

By the way, 75% of Americans oppose trans men in womens’ sports, which means most democrats do as well, including Gov Newsome and other leaders.

    • Laughing is probably better than puking.

For all you MAGA types, Thomas was an AA grad of an expensive private school and his picture is in the dictionary at “DEI hire”. Fine, but then he pulled up the ladder he used and now sucks up to wealthy patrons almost full time.

      • PS Rep Byron Donalds, the black Fl congressman from Sarasota is pulling a Clarence Thomas of his own. Twice given 2nd chances before a court in his youth, in an attempt to sell out the people of his background and rise in the MAGA GOP, he has now authored a “tough on crime” bill making similar chances for DC young men impossible. Jasmine Crockett explains:

          • She recounts the facts, which you can’t handle.

Daniels was found guilty of marijuana possession and then later bribery – he described it as theft – the 1st charge dismissed as part of a pretrial diversion program and was sentenced to probation and the charge later expunged. He benefitted from youthful offender status.

The bill he is pushing in Congress takes away much of the DC’s processing of crimes and gives it to the president and lowers the age of youthful offenders from 21 to 18, and not at the time of sentencing but of the crime. In another words, he is trying to end the process which allowed him to move on and become a productive member of society instead of locking him into a life of crime.

He has no principles except advancing his career by kissing Trump’s ass.

  • If we want to get to the bottom of the liberal vote we must look to the root cause: The transients [Students] most of whom are not permanent residents are allowed to vote in our local elections. The Governor needs to put a stop to this. If Mom and Dad list you as dependents, then you may be visiting, but you live with them, and should not be voting in Gainesville elections.

    • PLlease tell us what % of local voters are UF students, keeping in mind that about 1/3 of them are grad students, i.e., adults who may be here for 6-10 years.

  • The voters of Gainesville and Alachua County do not care about financial issues. For example, the 2 Billion dollar wood burner fiasco, the 8,000 dollar garbage cans, the free bus service for 99% of the riders, the housing vouchers for thousands, etc, etc, etc. We are looked at as a clownish bunch of weirdos. Hundreds gather on street corners screaming wildly swinging signs at people trying to get to work. Thuggish mobs gather at public meetings screaming at speakers while being egged on by horrid elected officials. Elected official hiding behind masks.

  • So true. They create poverty so there’ll always be future voters not yet convicted and barred from voting.
