Restroom renovation at Abby Wambach Park to begin soon

Press release from City of Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The City of Gainesville’s Wild Spaces & Public Places Department and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department are pleased to announce the renovation of the restrooms at Abby Wambach Park, located at 4501 SW 20th Ave.

The park’s restrooms will close on Nov. 18 and are expected to reopen no later than March 3, 2025. Temporary facilities will be available during construction.

The new restroom design meets accessibility guidelines. Work on the building’s interior consists of new toilets, urinals, partitions, countertops, faucets, sinks, diaper changing stations, and lighting. Exterior improvements include a new metal roof, skylights, and gutters.

Through a competitive procurement process, TPF Construction Services, LLC was awarded the construction contract at the cost of $109,600.00.

  • Didn’t they just build this park, or was this unfinished business from the recent construction?

    • They probably forgot to put feminine products in the men’s restrooms and urinals in the women’s. The City being what it is, they’re probably still trying to figure out which is which.

  • Hopefully the new toilets in there are the kind with lids on the tanks. So I can honor Abby by dropping an “upper-decker” in each one of them.

  • They spent $110,000 on bathroom upgrades for a park used by homeless folks and illegals, but haven’t put a blade of new grass on Citizens Field since 2005. Wild Spaces Public Places was a good idea that has devolved into a slush fund for minority group pet projects.
