Results of Alachua County 2024 homeless Point-in-Time Count released
Press release from Keys to Home
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The results of the 2024 homeless Point-in-Time (PIT) Count for Alachua County, conducted on January 22, 2024, have been released by Keys to Home, the FL-508 Homeless Continuum of Care (CoC). The PIT Count, a critical annual event, provides a snapshot of the number of individuals experiencing homelessness in our community on a single night. The comprehensive effort was made possible by the dedicated work of over 100 volunteers and partner organizations.
This year’s count, led by United Way of North Central Florida (UWNCFL) in its role as former lead agency for the CoC, identified 644 individuals experiencing homelessness in Alachua County, a 17-percent decrease from last year’s count of 725. The data includes individuals living in emergency shelters, transitional housing, and those unsheltered on the streets.
“We must remember that these numbers represent a single night’s snapshot and do not account for every person experiencing homelessness throughout the year,” said Amber Miller, President and CEO of United Way of North Central Florida. “While the PIT Count is an important tool for understanding the scope of homelessness, it cannot capture the full extent of the issue or the fluidity of individuals’ housing situations.”
In addition to the release of the PIT Count data, UWNCFL would like to remind the public of the change in CoC leadership. After six years of dedicated service, UWNCFL has stepped down as the lead agency and collaborative applicant for the CoC, transitioning the role to TaskForce Fore Ending Homelessness effective July 1, 2024.
“It has been a privilege to serve our community as lead agency these past six years,” said Miller. “This transition will allow our organization to focus more intensively on the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population, a group that is critically underserved and at high risk of falling into homelessness.”
Wish you would ask if they have a criminal record.
All homeless people are criminals now after the Supreme Court ruling.
…and? Your point?
Wonder how many are local and homeless due to local policies and expenses as opposed to how many are here as transients and found the politics more welcoming than other cities?
In either case, Poe and Co. are partially at fault. Hope their constituents are happy with what they’ve done to the place.
Putnum county releases their inmates here in Aiachua County to receive Grace Mkt benefits and to rid themselves of their undesirables…now you know.
We should send all the homeless felons back to where they came from and let their families, friends, & churches help them. That’s what we should be doing, not catering to them and making our community their home…
we have enough problems of our own without other counties sending us theirs!
Do you have proof of this?
Please cite a local policy that that causes homelessness.
Checked utility rates of late?
How about policies directed at landlords and the fees associated? Whether you want to admit it or not, those get passed on to tenants.
Greenspace requirements are but another.
Those are truths being told.
Homelessness has decreased by 17% huh? “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”
I notice that every time the topic of homeless funding comes up, politicians and NGOs always say that we need to spend more, we need more beds, we need more resources, because homelessness is getting worse.
But strangely, every time the performance of these programs is “measured” or questioned they always claim that they are effective and homelessness is decreasing.
Isn’t that strange?
Please share your solution to the nationwide homeless situation.
Send them to your enclave.
Here’s another one of those progressive tricks. Don’t believe your lying eyes and accept the truth? More lies from the Left. Give me some stats on homeless crime and then the scales will fall from your ‘misinformed’ eyes.
What were the high low temps on January 22, 2023 vs January 22, 2024? Weather conditions would play a big role in that count in the winter. It was a lot colder this year, which might have resulted in many of those ‘beloved’ homeless finding hidey holes and not being counted.
That should an easy Google, try it.
Why didn’t they count the ones in the Jail, who were homeless but judges hold them during cold winters?
