  • Gainesville City government should not be in the house-building business, or even rent-subsidy business. SOFL Doge needs to end this, perhaps through terminating property taxes and zero-budgeting all incorporated areas, letting them rethink local government from the ground up after getting their income streams cut way back.

    • Granite countertops, stainless steel utilities in affordable housing? Really? Affordable to who? Not the taxpayers. What is the sales price (or range) for this gem?

      • SST appliances and granite countertops are available in competitive lines and should last longer than porcelain and plastic laminate. This is not necessarily a big upgrade.

    • Public housing is a long term solution to a market too many citizens can’t afford. In the modern version, governments finance single family residences built by private companies instead of apartments. If you’re Daddy the SOFL doesn’t like it, they should do something better or STFU.

  • I didn’t see the “affordable” price or the “affordable” taxes.

Guess that doesn’t really matter, if the Clown Commission regains control of GRU billing, the potential owners are likely to find it “unaffordable.”

They’re likely to find more affordability on the sidewalks – that’s what the majority of voters in Gainesville are voting for.

  • Who pays the property taxes and household repairs after the house is occupied? Let me guess….

  • Another ribbon cutting. Didn’t that ceremony go away in the fifties?
Except in Gainesville. So whose brother owns a ribbon shop?

  • We have so many thousands of cheap apartments in Gainesville why would we need 3 more and a ceremony to boot? Affordable housing a is code word for leftoid voters.

  • It’s nice for families and extended family members. But the vast majority of homeless are single adults, often worn out coping on addictions before others give up on them.
It’d be better if the NGOs and govt encouraged single occupancy, mortgaged efficiency unit-sized housing for the pre-homeless single adults. Many have personalities that preclude them sharing housing with a roommate or housemates. But they could afford a small mortgage if such units were being built. No need for section 8 style subsidies.

🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸MAGA is private ownership for all.
