September 19 Alachua County Commission Special Meeting

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – The Alachua County Commission will conduct a Special Meeting on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. The meeting begins at 10 a.m. in the Grace Knight Conference Room on the second floor of the Alachua County Administration Building (12 S.E. 1st Street, Gainesville).

The meeting can be viewed on Cox Channel 12, the AC TV app (Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Roku), or the County’s Video on Demand website.

In-person public comments will be taken for the agenda items, and the public will also have an opportunity to speak about items not on the agenda. Members of the public who wish to speak are asked to limit their comments to three minutes.

Meeting items of interest:

  • Approve a Resolution adopting a new Policy on the Conveyance of County Properties and Surplus Land and authorize the Chair to sign
  • Unified Land Development Code discussion of Safety Standards and Certifications for Recreational Vehicles, Mobile Tiny Houses, and other Temporary Living Quarters
  • Affordable Housing Plan
  • Inclusionary Housing Feasibility Study update and discussion

  • I can’t wait to see how they mess this up. County certification of RVs? County safety standards? Do these idiots ever read the state laws? What makes them think they can override state law?

    You do know that these Democrats have NEVER defined “affordable housing.” How can they make a plan without having a definition of what affordable housing means?

    • Nothing in this discussion would override state law. Obviously the County can’t do that. People are skirting zoning laws by living in and renting structures in neighborhoods that are not allowed and, in some cases, unsafe. The Commission will discuss how to address this.

      There is no “Democratic, definition of affordable housing. At its simplest, the federal guideline says it is paying no more than 30% of your income on rent or mortgage. The Commission has stated this many times. The more accurate definition, in my view, is being able to afford life’s necessities after paying for housing.
