Sexual offender arrested on child pornography charges

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Christopher McKenzie Hanczaryk, 31, was arrested yesterday and charged with four counts of possession of child pornography and three counts related to failure to report required information as a sexual offender.

Gainesville Police Department received a CyberTip on April 25, 2023, about child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on an Instagram account. The video that was included with the tip showed a pubescent juvenile female and a pre-pubescent male engaged in sexual activity. The upload address was found to be associated with a Gainesville business that employed Hanczaryk.

A search warrant issued to Instagram reportedly produced the video from the CyberTip, along with three additional CSAM videos.

A search warrant issued to Google for the email address associated with the Instagram account produced numerous login IP addresses and a phone number. The IP address associated with the Gainesville business was used 85 times to log in to the Google email address. The most recent IP addresses used with that email account belong to an AT&T account owned by Hanczaryk. The phone number associated with the email address was found to be billed to Hanczaryk’s mother.

Hanczaryk was designated a Sexual Offender after an Ohio conviction for Attempted Unlawful Sexual Conduct with a Minor in 2011.

Investigators found a Facebook account and an additional Instagram account in active use by Hanczaryk; neither had been reported to law enforcement, which is required for Sexual Offenders. His current phone number and email address were also not reported to law enforcement.

Officers contacted Hanczaryk at his workplace yesterday, where he reportedly told them he creates a new email address every time he gets a new phone, and he does that “frequently.” Post Miranda, he initially said he used to have an Instagram account but no longer does; he reportedly confirmed that the Instagram account in the tip was his “old” account and later admitted having a second Instagram account. He initially said he didn’t remember the CSAM video but said his accounts had been hacked.

Later, Hanczaryk reportedly said he might have been sent the videos or come across them, but he didn’t distribute them; he added that he is addicted to “porn” and might come across CSAM sometimes.

A search of his phone reportedly showed that the phone was logged in to the Instagram account reported in the Cybertip. The investigator reported that Hanczaryk appeared to be chatting with a minor “in a sexual nature, where sexually explicit images were sent and received” on Instagram and chatting sexually on Snapchat with a person who identified herself as fifteen years old.

Bail information is not posted to the court system in child pornography cases.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    • Agree, but unfortunately our justice system doesn’t operate like that anymore. Too much money in it for the judges, prosecutors, attorneys, and all of the NGO’s that front like they can actual rehab these people. They aren’t going to put themselves out of business.

  • Who hires and houses scum like this?

A Google search shows his out-of-state pedophilic history. If garbage like him we’re not housed and employed locally then we wouldn’t need to worry with so many local predators prowling around.
