Sheriff announces promotions and new assignments

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Sheriff Clovis Watson Jr. is pleased to announce some changes at the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO) for 2023. These new promotions and assignments provide growth and opportunity and represent the future of ASO, as Sheriff Watson continues to fulfill his vision and promise to the community that will strengthen and improve the agency, the services we offer, and the bond we share with the citizens of Alachua County.

Effective January 15, 2023:

  • Interim Jail Director Dorian Keith promoted to the rank of Major with assignment of Jail Director in the Department of the Jail, reporting to Undersheriff Joel DeCoursey, Jr.
  • Chief Detective Jack “Lance” Yaeger promoted to the rank of Major in the Department of Support Services, reporting to Colonel Chad D. Scott.
  • Lieutenant Christopher Sims promoted to the rank of Captain in the Patrol Operations Division – Team 2, reporting to Colonel Chad D. Scott.
  • Lieutenant Jayson Levy promoted to the rank of Captain in the Patrol Operations Division – Team 1, reporting to Colonel Chad D. Scott.
  • Sergeant John Harris promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in the Criminal Investigations Division – ACTION Unit, reporting to Chief Detective Jonathan Schabruch.
  • Sergeant Matthew Yakubsin promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in the Special Operations Division – Juvenile Relations Bureau, reporting to Captain Joshua Crews.
  • Deputy Taylor Redding promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the Patrol Operations Division – Team 2 Nights, under the direction of Captain Christopher Sims.
  • Deputy Jered Smith promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the Patrol Operations Division – Team 1 Nights, under the direction of Captain Jayson Levy.

In accordance with ACSO Directive 314, a one-year probationary period is associated with these promotions effective January 15, 2023.  This probationary period is scheduled to end on January 15, 2024, pending successful completion of the terms described in ACSO Directives 314 and 431.

  • Captain Rebecca Butscher will transfer to the Public Information Office – PIO Commander, reporting to Sheriff Clovis Watson, Jr.
  • Captain Kelvin Jenkins will transfer to the Office of Professional Standards – Chief Inspector, reporting to Sheriff Clovis Watson, Jr.
  • Captain Jonathan Schabruch will transfer to the Criminal Investigations Division – Chief Detective, reporting to Major Jack “Lance” Yaeger.
  • Captain Kaley Behl will continue to oversee the Policy & Accreditation Unit, reporting to Sheriff Clovis Watson, Jr.
  • Administrative Specialist Gayle Fabiano will transfer to the Policy & Accreditation Unit, with assignment of Accreditation Specialist, reporting to Captain Kaley Behl.
  • Sergeant Nancy Marzouk-Brainerd will transfer to the Office of Professional Standards with assignment of Inspector, reporting to Chief Inspector Kelvin Jenkins.
  • Sergeant Sandra Myers will transfer to the Criminal Investigations Division – Major Crimes Bureau – Special Victims Unit, reporting to Lieutenant Brett Rhodenizer.
  • Lieutenant Virgil Calhoun will transfer to the Office of Professional Standards with assignment of Inspector, reporting to Chief Inspector Kelvin Jenkins.
  • Lieutenant Kyle Salman will transfer to the Department of the Jail – Security Operations Division, under the direction of Major Dorian Keith.
  • Lieutenant Scott Anderson will transfer to the Office of Professional Standards with assignment of Lead Inspector, reporting to Chief Inspector Kelvin Jenkins.
  • Lieutenant Sherry French will transfer to the Judicial Services and Training Division – Civil Bureau, reporting to Captain Stephen Maynard.
  • Lieutenant J.P. Hood will transfer to the Patrol Operations Division – Team 2 Days, reporting to Captain Christopher Sims.
  • Lieutenant Heather Phillips will remain in the Patrol Operations Division, with reassignment to Team 2 Evenings, reporting to Captain Christopher Sims.
  • Deputy Christopher Drake will transfer to the Judicial Services and Training Division – Warrants Bureau, reporting to Lieutenant Michael Hanson.
  • Lieutenant Edward Bennett will remain in the Patrol Operations Division, with reassignment to Team 1 Nights, reporting to Captain Jayson Levy.
  • Lieutenant David Butscher will remain in the Patrol Operations Division, with reassignment to Administrative Lieutenant, under the direction of Captain Jayson Levy and Captain Christopher Sims.
  • Deputy Sheriff Clinton Ferguson will transfer to the Criminal Investigations Division – Property Investigations Bureau – Investigations Support with assignment of Jail Intelligence, reporting to Sergeant Donald Cook.
  • Lieutenant Marvin Gunn will transfer to the Judicial Services and Training Division – Court Security Bureau, reporting to Captain Stephen Maynard.
  • Sergeant Peter King will transfer to the Judicial Services and Training Division – Training Bureau, reporting to Lt. Paul Hinson.
  • Lieutenant Richard Howell will transfer to the Patrol Operations Division – Team 2 Nights, reporting to Captain Christopher Sims.
  • Sergeant Philip Mauldin will transfer to the Special Operations Division – Juvenile Relations Bureau, reporting to Lieutenant Matthew Yakubsin.
  • Lieutenant Richard LaLonde will transfer to the Patrol Operations Division – Team 1 Days, reporting to Captain Jayson Levy.
  • Lieutenant Eric Hutchinson will remain in the Patrol Operations Division, with reassignment to Team 1 Evenings, reporting to Captain Jayson Levy
  • Sergeant Charles Drake will remain in the Patrol Operations Division, with reassignment to Team 1 Nights, under the direction of Captain Jayson Levy.
  • Sergeant Monica Herrera will remain in the Patrol Operations Division, with reassignment to Team 1 Days, under the direction of Captain Jayson Levy.
  • Sergeant Robert Townsend will remain in the Patrol Operations Division, with reassignment to Team 1 Days, under the direction of Captain Jayson Levy
  • Deputy Aaron Brami will transfer to the Patrol Operations Division – Team 1 Days, under the direction of Captain Jayson Levy
  • Deputy Alex Acosta will transfer to the Special Operations Division – Traffic Unit, under the direction of Captain Joshua Crews
  • Deputy Jon Huckstep will be appointed to Acting Sergeant, replacing temporarily deployed Sergeant Cleveland Cox III in the Patrol Operations Division – Team 2 Nights, under the direction of Captain Christopher Sims.
  • Lieutenant Matthew Yakubsin will be appointed to Honor Guard Commander.
  • Sergeant Andrew Davis III will be appointed to MOURT Commander.

Effective January 23, 2023:

  • Deputy Joel Coppock will be assigned to the Special Operations Division – Traffic Unit, under the direction of Captain Joshua Crews.

Effective TBD:

  • Deputy Cary Gallop will transfer to the Crime Prevention Unit with assignment of Crime Prevention Specialist, reporting to Captain Rebecca Butscher.
  • All the Clovis cronies getting promoted. Let’s just print the ASO press release with no accountability.

    • How do you happen to know that all the people promoted were “Clovis cronies?” I think you’ve made a very serious charge and I wonder how you would know such a thing.
