“an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers with information about a violent crime committed with a firearm in Alachua County that leads to an arrest makes the tipster eligible for a $1,000 reward.”
If I were a possible at-risk tipster, I would be worried about that word “eligible.” It sounds pretty oily.
Idiots! The thugs and gangbangers will turn in their stolen guns for $ 1K….and then go out and steal another one.
Marvelous opportunity for a cottage industry. 1) Buy a large number of Hi-Point 100-buck pistols. 2) Distribute them to the criminal population. 3) By default, the felons in possession of these weapons are ‘committing a crime’. 4) Heroically by the pistols back when you ‘discover’ your mistake. 5) Sell to the Sheriff for a 9-fold profit.
