Sheriff Scott fires deputy arrested in Dixie County

Staff report

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Alachua County Sheriff Chad Scott announced today that he has fired a deputy who was arrested in Dixie County yesterday morning.

Sheriff Scott released the following statement:

“Yesterday morning, I learned that a Deputy Sheriff who took an oath to protect our community and uphold the highest standards of integrity and character had violated that oath. The individual was arrested by the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office on charges involving multiple acts of violence.

“I immediately directed our Office of Professional Standards to open an investigation. In fewer than 12 hours, Leviticus Murray was terminated from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office because his actions are unbecoming of the responsibilities of this agency and the profession of law enforcement.

“In situations like this, transparency is essential. We strengthen the trust of our community by holding accountable anyone who dishonors the badge.

“As your Sheriff, I remain committed to your safety and to ensuring that you are served by law enforcement officers who honor the oath they have sworn.”

Murray had been employed as a deputy with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office since December 15, 2025.

    • Matthew 7:1-2: “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

  • Concerned citizens or local media outlets should start scrubbing social media and post photos of these exempt mugshot people. Just because their mugshot is protected by some ridiculous law doesn’t mean their physical identity should remain hidden from the masses. I would do it myself but I despise social media and I’ve never created any accounts.

  • Thank you Sheriff Scott for showing that no one is above the law and doing the right thing by firing him. Unfortunately his actions messed up a good law enforcement career.

    • Thank you Shreriff Scott for letting us know that it’s not “innocent until proven guilty, but guilty until proven innocent”… if the charges get dropped or if he’s found innocent in a court of law, the taxpayers will be paying for your haste…wonder what your police union has to say..

      • He does not have to be found guilty to be fired
Conduct Unbecoming”: This is the most common policy cited when an officer is disciplined or terminated for off-duty behavior. Agencies can fire an officer if their actions compromise their fitness for duty, reflect poorly on the agency, or impact public trust.

        • G: were you the one that said “commissioners should be fired for violating their oath of office to the state & US constitutions”…

if so, then DeSantis needs to fire & replace the GNV & Alachua county commissioners for violating their oath of office..

          • And taking that further… two ACSB members, one wears a mask, and one a racist made comments on their social media and were not fired…

            I despise double standards..

          • I agree with you the one who does not wear a mask is racist as hell

          • We cannot be lucky enough for him to remove the idiots that runs Gainesville alachua county I would love to see that we all know their conduct as un becoming when it comes to protecting citizens of Alachua County

  • In a court of public opinion the Sheriff can’t win. Here’s why: In the current scenario, Leviticus got fired for his actions but some will say the Sheriff overreacted. If Sheriff Scott did not fire him, some would say the Sheriff doesn’t care about the community and allowed a thug who should have been fired to continue working at ACSO. See how it works? Life is hard, it’s even harder when you are the top cop. For clarity, I recommend you listen to Paul Harvey’s dissertation on “A Policeman Is”.

  • The termination means nothing, hspd, apd, gcso and yes even dcso will hire him once this dies down!! That’s if he wants to stay here! If he goes to another state they’ll hire him immediately! Especially if he’s a fellow Freemason, which is a treasonous organization to the constitution!!

    • No name: on the US$1 bill, that pyramid with the eyeball is a Masonic symbol… any comments about that?

  • Can’t release the mug shot as he is “exempt” due to being an officer and might be or go undercover. Fine, he is fired now, where is the picture? More CYA cop stuff, no transparency, they protect each other first, public later.

  • Wait. Can’t post mugshot!!! But you allow other people mugshot to be seen for the world to see!!! You’re kinda saying that the livelihood isn’t equal. If everyone is equal then I think mugshots shouldn’t be allowed for anyone!! ..because he might be undercover one day… it’s a lot of regular civilians that’s posted who actually are undercover workers for you guys already sooo what’s the difference.
