Sheriff’s Office Marine Operations team rescues sailor and recovers body in separate incidents
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Members of the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Marine Operations Underwater Rescue Team (MOURT) responded to two incidents this week at Lake Santa Fe.
On Monday, MOURT members responded to a sailboat that had capsized; they were able to rescue the sailor off the boat and right the vessel.
Today, MOURT members responded to a capsized boat after one of the two people in the boat swam to a dock and called for help, saying his companion had gone underwater. Team members located the missing boater’s body after searching for several hours. The investigation has been turned over to the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Good job to the Sheriff’s department. Prayers to the family and friends of the deceased.
