Shooting at E. University Ave. Wawa leaves one dead, one wounded

On Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at approximately 9:00 p.m., multiple Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers responded to Wawa located at 1007 East University Avenue in reference to a person shot.

After arriving at the scene, officers located a victim on the ground that was unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. EMS arrived on scene, and the victim was declared deceased.

Officers quickly established control of the scene and began preliminary interviews. Detectives arrived shortly thereafter and continued contacting and interviewing those at the location of the incident. During this time, a second victim arrived at UF Health Shands ER, and it was determined that they were also shot at the Wawa location. The subject has since been released from the hospital.

GPD detectives continue to follow up and conduct interviews of those directly involved in the shooting.
