Singing Valentines Return to Gainesville

Press release from Barbergators Chorus

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Need a memorable way to celebrate Valentine’s Day? The Barbergators Chorus is once again delivering Singing Valentines to your loved one on Valentine’s Day, Tuesday, February 14th. Deliveries are available throughout the Gainesville area.

“We will be sending tuxedoed barbershop quartets out delivering love songs all day long,” said Bob Tucker, Barbergators Chorus VP of Marketing. Quartets will present two songs, a rose, and a personalized Valentine’s card with each delivery.

Valentines can be ordered online at https://barbergators.com/valentines or by calling (352) 358-1131.

The chorus makes deliveries from about 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Valentine’s day. They will make 40 or more deliveries throughout the day.

Flowers or chocolates are usually gone in a few days, but a Singing Valentine is a memory that lasts a lifetime.

Sometimes recipients blush, sometimes they shed tears, but they all get a memory that lasts forever.

“I’ve sung in living rooms, restaurants, offices, and even to a mechanic at Firestone,” said Dave Jacobs, president of the chorus. “But probably my favorite gig was to a teacher in front of the entire 5th Grade in the cafeteria. That was a memorable one!”

The quartets love delivering in public spaces to see not only the reaction of the recipient but also of his or her coworkers. Crowds gather. Coworkers are always jealous of the recipient. People will say, “Hey, can you do one for my spouse or girlfriend, too?”

The chorus has been delivering these unique gifts for over 15 years. But they had to put the program on pause for the past two years.

“Delivering Singing Valentines is one of our favorite gigs. It’s probably the most fun we have on any day of the year. Health concerns shut us down in 2021 and 2022.  So, we are definitely excited to be back serenading again this year!” said Tucker.

The Barbergators Chorus is a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. The chorus has been active since 1973. They are a 501.3(c) non-profit organization.  The chorus rehearses Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church 3146 NW 13th Street, Gainesville, FL 32609. Visitors are always welcome.

  • They serenaded my sweetheart, in a departmental meeting. What a beautiful, unforgettable, sound, such harmony! I did not know the meeting was happening…..turns out, they were also on Zoom!
