St. Francis House announces program changes amid economic challenges
Press release from St. Francis House
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After many years of serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness in our community, St. Francis House has made the difficult decision to close several programs due to current economic conditions and decreased funding levels.
The organization’s Day Services Program will close on Friday, March 20, 2026, and Emergency Shelter Services and Cold Night Shelter Program will conclude by April 16, 2026. As a result, the St. Francis House downtown Main Street facility will close permanently; however, the organization remains hopeful that services may reopen in another location in the future, pending the sale of the building.
Despite these changes, St. Francis House will continue to operate its Transitional Housing Program at Arbor House, which serves women and their children as they work toward achieving permanent housing and stability.
“For many years, St. Francis House has been committed to helping women and families with children experiencing homelessness create new futures,” said leadership from the organization. “While these changes are difficult, our mission continues, and we remain dedicated to supporting women and families as they work toward stability and housing.”
St. Francis House remains committed to working with community partners and supporters to continue addressing homelessness and providing critical support to vulnerable women and children in the community.

Going as planned by the Demonic Party forces building their new courthouses across the street. The ones behind funding GRACE with taxpayer subsidies to scummy judges and lawyers, bail bondsmen instead of SFH.
ACLUSPLCDNC 👿👹🤡👺💩
Now if marketplace would follow suit and close that would decrease a good bit of the crime that occurs in the city of Gainesville
How does St. Francis House get its funding?
Mission accomplished by Commissioners, St Francis closed. Now hopeless will be at the Dis-Grace Center.
Where are all the churches?
Most of your major churches in the region actually support St. Francis with people and money.
There’s 220 churches in just the Gainesville area… only 2 provide any real monetary support (Queen of Peace and First Pres.), a few others provide lesser support. Most churches don’t provide any support there at all. The very few that do are on their site… for profit businesses and individuals donate WAY more. If churches stepped up, as they should, then there wouldn’t be a problem.
Most church goers are sunday Christians thats means they show up on sunday do the talk give the 10% but fail to do the walk on the other 6 days in other words hypocrites
220 Tax evaders in Gainsville.
Good churches can only do so much with declining support and attendance. The bad ones who care nothing about the poor do not donate their prosperity funds to charities and instead line their pockets for fancy houses and cars.
SMH
And the downtown business owners are gonna PARTAY !
