Starke woman killed in crash east of Melrose

Staff report

MELROSE, Fla. – A 42-year-old Starke woman was killed this morning when a pickup truck veered into her lane and hit her car.

According to a release from Florida Highway Patrol, the woman was driving a sedan westbound on State Road 26 near CR 219A at about 6:51 a.m. when a pickup truck driven by a 49-year-old Melrose man left the roadway while traveling east, then veered back across the centerline and hit the left side of the sedan. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene; the driver of the pickup reportedly sustained minor injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

  • Sounds like the pick up driver might have been looking or texting causing him to run off the road and then panic and overcorrect?
