State Board of Education passes rule to permanently prohibit DEI in state colleges
Press release from Florida Department of Education
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, the State Board of Education implemented strict regulations to limit the use of public funds for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs, activities, and policies in the Florida College System (FCS). The rule adopted by the Board defined DEI for the first time and affirmatively prohibits FCS institutions (state colleges) from using state or federal funds to administer programs that categorize individuals based on race or sex for the purpose of differential or preferential treatment. The Board’s decision will ensure that taxpayer funds can no longer be used to promote DEI on Florida’s 28 state college campuses.
The State Board of Education also replaced the course “Principles of Sociology” with a comprehensive general education core course in American History. The aim is to provide students with an accurate and factual account of the nation’s past, rather than exposing them to radical woke ideologies, which had become commonplace in the now replaced course.
“Higher education must return to its essential foundations of academic integrity and the pursuit of knowledge instead of being corrupted by destructive ideologies,” said Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. “These actions today ensure that we will not spend taxpayers’ money supporting DEI and radical indoctrination that promotes division in our society.”
Florida remains committed to providing our students with a world-class education rooted in the pursuit of truth, rather than biased indoctrination, which is why the state’s higher education system has been ranked #1 in the nation for seven consecutive years by the U.S. News & World Report.
Sweeeeeet down with diversity in the work place.. because we all know most jobs people get are totally merit based and having women and people of color 🙄 moving up in the world 🌎 is crazy and scary 😨.. what happens when the good old boy network doesn’t work anymore 😳 who wants a equal playing field.. like this is a democracy or something..
All the people I know didn’t get jobs because of affirmative action 🙄.. I love workplaces that only values one set of (principles)wink wink.. one voice.. once choice..because people are more than likely 2 hire or relate to people who looks like them.. so same principles means the same voices and perspectives in the room just like the 1940s..
Progressive thinking is so scary 😨 and keeping things status qoe is perfect 🥰.. maybe more colleges and universities and companies get created so they can actually have a chance 2 succeed in life.. then we will cry about and call them racist 4 doing it.. man make America great 👍🏾 again and again..
We’re not Racist..But our policies are ☺️🤩
So the State not providing preferential treatment based on race and sex is racist and sexist? I hope you realize how inverted your logic is
Probably perverted as well. 😉
King said, “Whenever the issue of compensatory treatment for the Negro is raised, some of our friends recoil in horror. The Negro should be granted equality, they agree; but he should ask nothing more. On the surface, this appears reasonable, but it is not realistic.”
Start your own company? That’s what people do in the real world of non-victims. But then you wouldn’t have anything to cry about your whole life.
If progressivism is such a popular and influential idea and it’s so dominant amongst the population, then why do people like yourself see a need to create societal pressures into hiring practices?
MLK holiday was just this week. Did you miss the part about “not being judged by the color of their skin but the content of their character?”
The only thing that speaks as loudly as your idiocy is your hypocrisy.
You apparently missed the fact that MLK supported affirmative action and said: “King said, “Whenever the issue of compensatory treatment for the Negro is raised, some of our friends recoil in horror. The Negro should be granted equality, they agree; but he should ask nothing more. On the surface, this appears reasonable, but it is not realistic…..a society that has done something special against the Negro for hundreds of years must now do something special for the Negro.”

So cut that rewriting history crap that he opposed it.
Missed? If the negro shouldn’t ask for more then why are they demanding more?
You reference the LA Times? LA’s doing such a wonderful job with racial equality aren’t they?
People like yourself are a joke, such hypocrisy after you’ve built your wealth and fortune on the backs of those you’ve taken advantage of.
I’m not against equality, all for it but there’s a difference in asking for equal treatment and preferential treatment.
Thanks for agreeing that MLK favored AA even if you did so by ignoring the evidence and trying to change the subject to LA and me. Glad that fact is settled.
Jazzman. you apparently didn’t read the MSNBC report yesterday that bragged that the FAA, who regulates airlines, aircraft, (and provides traffic control across the country and airports), has a new aggressive program to hire people with handicaps. This includes mental problems. Won’t that work well with everyones safety, in near, or under flight routes.
More BS:
“The cited FAA text is real, but the implication that the policy is new, or that it stems from efforts that began under U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and President Biden, was demonstrably false. It has been included on the FAA’s website since at least as early as February 2013. It was present during the entirety of the Trump administration, and it remains present at the time of this reporting.
In response to their reporting, the FAA told Fox News that their hiring policies do not negate the need for candidates to meet rigorous qualifications, depending on position:
The FAA employs tens of thousands of people for a wide range of positions, from administrative roles to oversight and execution of critical safety functions. Like many large employers, the agency proactively seeks qualified candidates from as many sources as possible, all of whom must meet rigorous qualifications that of course will vary by position.
Media coverage provided no evidence linking any DEI initiative with the Alaska Airlines incident. On Jan. 11, 2024, the FAA announced it would launch an investigation to look into whether Boeing “failed to ensure completed products conformed to its approved design and were in a condition for safe operation in compliance with FAA regulations.”

Sure, because everyone knows that outside of AA subjects like large corporations and government institutions, most hires in America are small business private businesses where relatives, those mentored, those who look like the owner are odds on favorites for the job and the path up the ladder. It’s human nature of course, but the damage is real to those already several rungs down that ladder. Sure, hard chargers can still make it over obstacles, but what per centage of any demographic group is that motivated?
It’s a fact that blacks are still handicapped here and pretending they aren’t and don’t need a lift up by the country that enslaved, raped, beat, sold, and then excluded from public accommodations and civic life their ancestors and some still living today is a fantasy from the ignorant – at best – and still racist – at worst – politicians and voters. My party looks like America. Desantis’s doesn’t and he wants to keep it that way.
Things have declined so rapidly in this country that I’m surprised any pushback against the insanity remains. DEI is a huge money maker for thousands of opportunists sucking the taxpayers dry. A national divorce is the only thing that can save the sane. Just make it so no leftoids want to come to FL.
We are very fortunate to have such a good Executive and Legislative branch of government in the state right now.
Good.
I support this change! Christopher Rufo has done some really helpful work in exposing the problems with DEI. I highly recommend reading his articles.
Rufo is carpetbagger jerk – he lives in Seattle but is taking apart New College, which was a shining asset of the state before the GOP radical right idiots in Tallahassee and corrupt politicians – see Corcoran the new President of a school of about 1000 for $1.3 million a year (his degrees are from St Leo and Regents).
Trashing a school which last year was ranked by US News as the countries 5th best public college – 1-4 were the Naval Academy, West Point, the AF Academy, and VMI – is Rufo’s great “accomplishment” and dollars to donuts it will no longer or ever again reach that stature with that ideologue driving (but hey, “In 2022, he earned a Master of Liberal Arts in Extension Studies in the field of Government[14] from Harvard Extension School, the nature of which Rufo has consistently misrepresented” Wikipedia).[15].
New College has at times LED THE NATION in the per capita number of grads who went on to grad school, was once rated the best deal in American colleges, and it’s list of alums is impressive, including those in business and the professions. DeSantis and his stooges have ruined that institution and it’s excellent legacy and reputation.
Hallelujah. Why don’t Dems believe in equal opportunity, after getting so much free stuff already? FREE education, for starters 14 years to train little Ds how to act right. Not enough? 🤡👹🍦🍦🍦DEI
So then I suppose the DEI offices at UF under the direction of Dr. Marsha McGriff, who by the way makes over $300,000 annual salary, will be closing soon??
Nothing left to see here, move along… Ben Sasse’s office is less than 500 feet from the DEI office. Perhaps he and Desantis are chomping at the bit to turn the lights off in the DEI office.
Best example of DEI product is Kamala Harris.
What is Trump the best example of?
A pumpkin?
What is difficult to ignore and sweep under the media carpet covering what it doesn’t want people to see is the South is taking an ‘affirmative action’ against racism and discrimination while the North defends inclusion and exclusion based on race.
Anyone who claims DEI policies are not racist have bought into one of the key foreboding statements in George Orwell’s ‘1984;’
“Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one’s mind simultaneously and accepting both of them.”
As long as the Democratic Party remains silent or complacent over the discriminatory mechanics and effects of DEI it will continue living in the shadows of its racist past including the KKK, Jim Crow, and segregation.
Democrats have an opportunity to take a stand against discrimination, but it will require a re-tooling of their identity politics model and performance rather than promises.
The south is once again disenfranchising blacks through gerrymandering, which even the right wing US SC can’t stomach, and bogus ID and get out the vote laws with felony punishment for misunderstandings – see the thwarting of Florida citizens amendment for felons voting by a corrupt GOP. “Hey buddy, you can’t vote if you owe fines and no, we won’t tell you if you do.” People are spending serious time in jail for trying to exercise the intent of Florida voters to let them vote.
There’s a reason that until the SC made the mistake of releasing the southern states from review of their voting procedures as allowed for in the 15th amendment and practiced since then. The Republican party that enforced Reconstruction for 8 years of Grant, by the 1920s led the democrats in Klan membership and influence – which cost them the black vote starting in 1932 – is now the party that doesn’t look like America but instead looks like the most exclusionary country club in Alabama.
And what party in Gainesville was responsible for the gentrification of certain neighborhoods?
Gentrification is market driven – good locations, sometimes really nice old houses, for cheap. There is no government program encouraging whites to buy houses in black neighborhoods.
If it has to be, sounds like this would be an improvement over the way taxes are used now?
