Stolen vehicle flips, killing one occupant and sending another to the hospital in critical condition

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at approximately 12:30 a.m., while on an increased foot patrol at an apartment complex, a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officer saw a vehicle he knew had been reported stolen on Monday, June 27. The stolen vehicle (2015 Chrysler 200) exited the apartment complex, and the GPD officer got back into his vehicle to initiate a traffic stop. The stolen vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, at which time the officer discontinued the traffic stop.
The vehicle was last seen traveling westbound on NE 23rd Avenue from North Main Street. A short time later, GPD officers located the stolen vehicle flipped on its side at 1400 NW 23rd Avenue. Gainesville Fire Rescue responded and extracted two occupants from inside of the stolen vehicle. Both occupants were transported to UF Health Shands. One occupant was pronounced deceased at Shands. The other occupant remains in critical condition. Two stolen firearms were also located inside the stolen vehicle.

Oh what a shame, criminals in an accident?
Yippee! Now we get to pay for his medical care too.
I appreciate them saving at least half of my taxes rather than one of their lives. On an even brighter side, it probably saved someone else’s life since they were in possession of stolen firearms.
Those laws to keep criminals from obtaining firearms really worked in this case didn’t they?
