Supervisor of Elections finds nine voters in City of Alachua election potentially ineligible, turns list over to prosecutors

BY JENNIFER CABRERA
ALACHUA, Fla. – Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Kim Barton has found that nine voters in the City of Alachua’s April 8 election were potentially ineligible to vote; the mayoral race in that election was decided by only 21 votes.
After the election, citizen investigator Mark Glaeser sent the City of Alachua a list of 11 voters who cast a ballot and may have been ineligible, mostly due to unpaid fines and fees after felony convictions. On May 8, Barton notified the City that her investigation was complete and that she was forwarding her findings to the State Attorney’s office and the Florida Office of Election Crimes and Security.
On May 20, Barton notified State Attorney Brian Kramer that “there is evidence that nine of the eleven individuals have registered to vote and/or voted in an election when they were ineligible to do so.” Nine of the 11 voters on Glaeser’s list were found to owe fines and fees related to felony convictions; one individual’s adjudication of guilt was withheld, and the other has a felony conviction from 1986, but no fines or fees are owed.
Even if the number of ineligible voters had exceeded the gap between the winner and loser, that would not change the election results because there is no clear mechanism in Florida for retroactively nullifying votes except in specific circumstances, such as a court finding that the election was invalid due to fraud.
As explanation for why the voters remained on the rolls, Barton also noted that Florida Supervisors of Elections cannot begin the removal process for voters who are ineligible to vote due to a felony until they are provided credible and reliable information from the Department of State, a County Clerk of Court, or another governmental entity. She wrote, “Our office did not receive that credible and reliable information from any of those entities regarding these eight [sic] individuals; however, after receiving information from a member of the public, we searched the CCIS database and found credible and reliable information on nine of the voters in question during the week of April 24, 2025.” Barton wrote that she has started the process of removing the nine voters from the rolls by mailing them notices of potential ineligibility.
The Florida Office of Election Crimes and Security has referred three of these individuals to law enforcement, and six cases are still under investigation; two of the eleven complaints were closed, presumably the two that were found to be eligible voters.
Based on previous cases, the voters may face felony charges of fraudulently registering to vote or willfully voting as an unqualified elector.
Wait a minute. Didn’t Kim Barton instruct her staff to assist inmates in registering to vote a few years ago?
While also suing a local church because she couldn’t walk properly …
Instead of claiming Workmans Comp, because she was on the clock, performing her government business. We haven’t replaced the insulted polling places either.
She did claim workers compensation in addition. The workers’ comp carrier has a lien on the proceeds of the third party case since it happened at work. Her workers’ comp claim is public record.
Kim Barton’s ethics should be investigated considering her role as an elected public official, that’s all.
This is the same Kim Barton who very publicly solicited applications and registrations from the inmates of the AC Jail. Now, she has stabbed them in the back for her political gain, if she is running for reelection.
Isn’t the bottom line here voters in the City of Alachua decided Coerper and Potts needed to go? Not enough votes in Tech City or Turkey Creek to support their “candidates”?
Yes that is the bottom line and lets move on. People wanted Welch as an alternative to Coerper, and a a lot more people wanted to replace Potts with Fletcher.
And I don’t like that the Glazers targeted the precinct in a neighborhood where there are more people of color. Their investigation did not start at Turkey Creek.
Voter Lives Matter
There have to be more invalid ballots than nine.
There always is.
Dems were hoping the MSM would make big announcements freeing felon voters (but not adding the qualifying details Dem voters wouldn’t understand)…. 👿💩👹👺🤡
Republican voter suppression. EVERY American citizen has the right to vote.
I agree with Hoyt

Why are their so many maggats on this site ?
This felon’s fees and fines nonsense was a GOP scam to overcome the overwhelmingly approved state ballot initiative to reinstate voting rights for felons who did their time. Fees and fines was not part of that clear expression of the will of Florida’s citizens. You could say, “OK, fine, just pay the fees and fines.” The trick is that the state will not provide this information to those wanting to pay which means you have to do research, often involving an attorney, to know what they are. This is BS with creeps like DeSantis playing tough guy again by setting this trap. If the state insists on keeping this requirement it should maintain a data base of what those fees and fines are so people aren’t trapped. They won’t because they don’t want ex-felons voting and like pretending there is serious voter fraud, in spite of the clear will of the voters.
