Suspect and victim dead, two officers injured in East University Avenue shooting

Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A shooting suspect was killed this morning by Gainesville Police Department officers after he reportedly started shooting at them, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to two officers. A deceased victim was also found at a nearby business.
At about 7:56 a.m. on January 14, officers responded to a report of shots fired on East University Avenue. According to a GPD spokesman, an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle, and a suspect exited the vehicle with a pistol, charged at the officer, and shot at the officer, who returned fire.
Two more officers arrived, and the suspect reportedly turned and started shooting at them. Those officers also returned fire, and one of them hit the suspect, who tried to run but fell to the ground. The suspect was transported to a local hospital and died from the gunshot wound.
Two officers were shot during the incident; their injuries are reportedly non-life-threatening.
After the incident, an individual with a fatal gunshot wound was discovered at Imeca Lumber and Hardware (1201 E. University Avenue).
This is a developing investigation, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is on scene to investigate the officers’ actions.

Glad the officers are going to be OK.
Good Job GPD, glad you are all safe and as a bonus one less criminal in the system. No free phone calls for that guy.
Prayers for recovery of our Officers.
Damn Eastside Gainesville wtf?!?
Just listened on tv to the district one commissioner drone on about gun violence and said zero about the two wounded officers.
Wouldn’t have expected anything less from her.
Disrespect for law enforcement and other authority is the cause of this.
Until that changes, expect more of the same.
Glad the officers will be okay, unfortunately the criminal killed someone else. FORTUNATELY, the shooter is dead. Good riddance to that POS.
Imeca Lumber and Hardware, 1201 E. University Ave, Gainesville, FL Same block as a KFC.
Praying for these heroic law enforcement officers who were injured, and a big “thank you” to the officer that put this violent criminal down for good.
Yes sorry for the officers. And glad they’re ok. But how about the other guy at the lumber yard. No one has said anything about him. He could have been hit with a stray bullet!! So definitely prayers for that guy and his family. And lord have mercy on the guy who was doing the shooting! Word of wisdom. You can’t just focus on just the officers, you have to include everyone. Even the ones who was caught in the crossfire. That’s bad problem In Gainesville. Be thankful EVERYONE IS OK! Not just the people who’s gonna pull you in December to make that quota!
