Tallahassee man arrested on I-75 for possession of a machine gun sentenced to 90 days in jail, three years probation

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Tareek Termaine Williams, 22, of Tallahassee, was sentenced today to 90 days in jail and three years of probation after pleading to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a machine gun.

On August 10, 2023, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled over a Lincoln Navigator on I-75 for a potential window tint violation. The deputy noted that he immediately smelled burnt marijuana when the driver, Williams, rolled down the window. The tint measured 11 percentage points too dark.

The deputy reported that both Williams and his passenger said they did not have medical marijuana cards and gave inconsistent stories about their travel locations and dates.

A probable cause search of the vehicle reportedly produced a marijuana cigar in an ashtray. In an area that is typically used to store tools for roadside assistance, the deputy reportedly found a towel wrapped around two handguns that had been reported stolen; one had a Glock Switch attachment, which converts a semi-automatic pistol into a machine pistol capable of fully automatic fire.

Post Miranda, both Williams and his passenger denied knowing anything about the firearms.

The deputy later reviewed footage from his patrol vehicle’s backseat camera, and Williams reportedly was very interested in where deputies were searching. At one point, he reportedly began praying and said he hoped the deputies didn’t open one particular area of the vehicle; he leaned over his passenger to get a better look at where deputies were searching. Williams reportedly apologized to his passenger for putting him in that situation and said his passenger would be okay because he didn’t have any previous convictions, but he would not. At one point, Williams reportedly asked his passenger if the deputies found “them.” The deputy noted, “As the only illegal items found in the cargo area were the firearms, it is perceived that he was referring to the firearms.”

A sworn complaint was filed about a month later, charging Williams with possession of a machine gun and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Formal charges were filed, and Judge William E. Davis issued a warrant for Williams’s arrest in early November 2023, with bail set at $100,000. Williams has one adult felony conviction, seven juvenile felony convictions, and three juvenile misdemeanor convictions.

Williams was arrested on the warrant in Tallahassee on January 10, 2024, and released on bail.

Today, Williams entered a plea of nolo contendere to both charges, which have a maximum sentence of 30 years, according to the plea document. Judge Davis agreed to the plea deal that resulted in 90 days in jail followed by three years of probation for each charge, to be served concurrently.

  • 90 days on a possible 30 years. Possession of a stolen machine gun and a second stolen gun by a convicted felon. Great work, Davis, you’re a f’n idiot.

    • I’d also look to the people over at the SAO that negotiated and approved the deal, too. It doesn’t look like anyone is serious about taking guns off the street.

    • The guy snitched, and that’s why he got that sentence. The feds could still charge him and bang him.
Judge Davis is solid and he wouldn’t have done this, if the Fed’s weren’t already on the guy.
It looks like a slap on the wrist, trust me the Fed’s have this guy in their bullpen now and they will work him.

      • If Judge Davis is giving sweet deals like this or agreeing to them. Its because the guy is or will become a federal informant. Its the only time Davis goes for stuff like this.
Even still if the guy keeps messing up, Davis will revoke his bond regardless of what the Fed’s want.

          • He aint famous just cause he got a little motion. I never heard of him or seen him before so how famous is he.
Maybe famous to clowns like you, but not to anyone out here really doing business or making moves.
The rappers are always the snitches, what major rapper has not been an informant at some point in their life.
When I googled his name nothing really came up but you say he is famous.
Also in the State of Florida when you get caught with a weapon and you have a F, that’s automatic prison time unless (minimum mandatory) so how are all these guys getting caught with guns as felons and even worse guns with switches and not going straight to prison???
            They working!

  • My bad, I didn’t read the statement about it being a pistol with an added device, which is not a machinegun under the law. Still, 90 days is pretty light for all the stuff they had.

  • 3 months in jail and 3 years of probation??? All of you people screaming for solutions to shootings should be calling for the firing of these soft-on-crime judges and DAs. Ridiculous…

  • But where are the 2a people???? Nowhere to be found of course because The right to bear arms is only exclusive for white people

    • You are not reading the article. He is a convicted felon!!!! He is not allowed under state law and federal law to own, possess, or use a firearm. No where does the state law or federal law deem race a factor. Stop race baiting. It makes you the winner of the award today

    • 2A people are here, but since we actually comply with federal gun laws, we have nothing to say about this thug. Sorry, try again next time. Go cry to Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson with your race-baiting foolishness.

    • What part of the “2 guns reported stolen” didn’t you understand Mike? Why didn’t he own his own gun again? Oh yeah .. he lost that right!

  • That’s not enough…. In 91 days he’ll have another one. Also how are these switches so readily available? Seems like all the scholars have them.

  • He better be grateful the Feds didn’t prosecute the machine gun charge or he’d be looking at some serious prison time. No parole either.

  • There must be more to this story. This is a 20 year offense. Possession of a firearm by a (multiple) Felon? Stolen pistols? Machine gun??????? There must be more to the story.

  • Captian Shad “Welcome to Gainesville.”

Semper Veritas “NOTE TO SELF: When committing a crime, make sure I’m in Gainesville/Alachua County!”

What has this got to do with anything?

State Attorney and judges are elected/retained by the voters of all SIX counties of the 8th Circuit.

Gainesville can/is easily outvoted at any time.

  • Yall are all idiots, there was 2 GUNS one reported stolen and was also modified with a switch which makes it an automatic pistol. The 2nd gun was clean. For one the case was WEAK they found the guns in a compartment where the tools are stashed in the trunk, no dna or fingerprints tying him to the guns. two this was a rental car, car not in his name, anybody could have left those guns their or put them their! Three the only thing tied him to the guns was his incriminating statements in the back of the police car! Four he has one adult FELONY CONVICTION witch isn’t violent or to bad. Five he’s a RAPPER WITH ALOT OF MONEY. And he is tied to OTHER FAMOUS RAPPERS who have MILLIONS! More than likely he had a top 5 lawyer in Florida! The state knew the case was weak that’s why he got a SWEET DEAL. And for the people blaming judge Davis he doesn’t make the pleas the state comes up with the pleas. It’s on Davis to accept them. At the end of the day they got a CONVICTION! I’m pretty sure his lawyer talked to the state and told the state how weak this case was, the state knew the case was weak. That’s why he got a sweet deal. And as far as the idiots talking about he’s telling it he’s going to be and informant because Davis doesn’t give deals like this you’re an idiot Also lol people get sweet deals everyday for way worse Sht . Another thing a switch is a STATE AND A FEDERAL OFFENSE he can’t be charged with both once the state picks up the case they have the option to pass it to the Feds and they obviously didn’t do that because this isn’t a serious situation for that ! The FEDS will not pick this up or follow him or try to charge him later again that’s double jeopardy meaning he can’t be charged twice for the same offense. Six….a lot of people are arrested for guns with switches (modified guns to make them automatic)every week and don’t go federal BECAUSE IT ISNT WORTH THE FEDS TIME AND MONEY when the state can do the same thing charge and give them the same amount of time ! Another thing just because I posses a GUN for my protection makes me a bad person? Naw it doesn’t regardless of the law! He wasn’t out committing crimes with this gun he more than likely has it for protection for hating people who like to rob people ! He’s a famous rapper a street rapper at that! He loves his life just like yall do. A lot of yall are white people who never had to struggle or came from poverty so you wouldn’t understand certain things or situation! An this isn’t a race thing.

  • Ni66a uhhh wiz is a rapper bro he got cheese to get a lawyer his label was in court and all this ain’t no snitch case this a I got money case tf yall dumb as hell man free da wiz look him up on YouTube wizz havinn
